CD Key...

Post by ein »

Since i couldn't find any other support forums, i thought i could just post here... sorry if this is off-topic but i just reinstalled windows, and my cdkey isn't working, so i can't launch UT or CUT. Is there any way to re-enter the key w\out reisntalling? (i forgot the dvd at a friends' house)

When I usually lose/forget/never had a CD key, I just go down to google and type '<Game name> CD key' and more often than not, the first site gives me a tidy list of CD keys for the game.

STATUATORY WARNING:

Getting CD keys could be considered illeagal and hence must not be performed in front of computer crime officers... :D

Some sites claiming to have CD keys are actually CHOCK FULL OF VIRUSES!!! Caution is advised... :D

Yes you have to make a reg entery

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Unreal Technology\Installed Apps\UT2004

CDkey and the value. Howeveer there are other settings for UT2004 stored in the reg that got whipped out when you re-installed. You may have to re-install it to make sure they are all set back correctly..

Yea I did the first time I saw it too. But I remember that in the past when I could not back up data but needed to re-install windows that I ran into the same thing. You do get a fresh copy of windows but almost all of your apps need to be re-installed as all of the registy info is whipped out (but thats why your doing this)..including UT cd keys :)
