Gravity vortex

UT on my PC seems to be busted, I'll try to uninstall it, but how do you do that while keeping everything besides what came with the game?

Are you able to pull off any elite escapes from the vortex this time like with grapple? In UT, I was not able to escape even with the grapple (on low gravity at least anyway) if I got too close. I know the whole point is to stay away from it, but that must be at least one way to escape. Will it be any easier or harder to escape from it in UT2k3?
