Kungai, I actually thought about you. I just don't know how many subcontinent and Asian Chaos players there are... so I just took the consevative option, although if anyone could start a sever there for the thing, I think it would be great. I just don't have that kind of data. Although with a nice connection, your pings might be fairly similar to those US players who are playing on European servers, but that is just speculation.
Jingle, jingle, boom. Oops, you're dead.
That sucks cause I wanted to play....
But let the show go on!

Yeah but lag isn't as much a problem with melee as with most gametypes. I can do good most of the time with a 200 ping. I even do fairly well against most Europeans on a European server (except Fizzy... I even beat Fizzy once in a while ).Shadowstar wrote:Chaos servers were full back when we first released Duel because it was new and everyone was trying it out. I even spent a great deal of time playing it back then as [ArL]Argon. After a while, people drifted away from it and started playing other games. However, Duel and Chaos still get played quite a bit at LAN parties and local events. Duel is so much better without lag.

I dunno... Once you've played melee with no lag, you'll never wanna go back.
EDIT: and bots dont count.

Ya.. melee games are the hardest to play with lag.. and endo, you and your "weapon stops when hit" claim should be your proof on that! heh thats going to be labeled a lag problem after i finalize my testing and demo proofShadowstar wrote:I dunno... Its one thing when a rain of bullets are heading your way and there is some lag.. a few of the bullets that aimed past you are bound to hit ya, but the slightest lag in melee when you expect your weapon to hit a direct point on a person, and it ends up going right thru them, thats where people get annoyed.

I dont know anybody who plays CUT here. Nobody bothers to download, let alone play it because of the internet connections here. For multiplayers, we go to a webworld, where downloading mods is strictly forbidden, even if the mod is free and DAMN GOOD.
Im all alone here, in this country of over a billion people, playing CUT.
BTW: IDK about China/thailand/Taiwan/etc. They are supposed to be major internet gamers and maybe playing CUT all night long...
The only other person I know who plays CUT in a 350km radius is Antarius. i gave him a copy of the CUT umod i downloaded. Spreading the chaos, one person at a time...

How is Rythmix getting online with his internet down? Eh?
And anyway Endo, lag does hurt you, but you are a good player nonetheless. ANd you're whooping of me during hte tournament proved it, though I could come up with a dozen excuses...

after playing the Thievery mod for UT99, ive come to the realization that lag with melee games doesn't necessarily mean a bad thing.. in fact many times while playing against Australians with pings of 400, the smaller pinged player would end up dead 9/10 times... the network seems to junk frames at certain lag points, giving the higher lagged players a little leverage... (sometimes claimed as unfair advantage)EndobioticChaos wrote:Well then perhaps I've just better learned to compensate for lag in melee than most people. Because I generally do better than most people, and I generally have a higher ping than most people. I think Rythmix can vouch for that.
its hard to understand how it works, especially with the way we all know lag by definition.. but look at even the Chaos Melee player standings.. Those who play with huge ping differentials, seem to all be the leaders! Fizzy, Armagon, endo... then there are those on the low end.. General Sun, Rythmix, dramamine. Not saying that they all aren't very good players, but on each end of the spectrum, in a melee game, there are some excessive advantages to be outlined. But there's nothing you can do about it. Its the ones in the middle that suffer the most, but the high pingers seem to do the teleport thing that throws everyone off.
And Rythmix is posting from Parents PC and from work.

Gah!! Okay okay, I'm sorry I sidetracked this thread!! Please lets get back on topic.
My point in my first post of this thread is we REALLY need more people playing this mod online, lag or no lag. If we get enough people playing, more servers will be set up, and the more servers there are, the better the chances of you finding a good server with low pings.
So come on people! With the amount of people currently playing this mod online, it looks like it's going nowhere but down!
