The Katan beats all because it does so much damage. You can get in fast and then get out fast. It's possible to avoid it of course but in the hands of a master it's truely deadly. But I'm not saying that it's over powered, there are obvious limitations to it but it can beat all (and all can beat it ...

heh, so many people whine how "X weapon is cheap and for noobs" I think they're pretty balanced, you just have to know how to deal with their attacks. Look at me, I used to hate the axe, because of it's ridiculous range. I figured out that it swings pretty slow,so now I wait for the swing...
