It's official! 10 Years of Chaos !!

Post by R.Flagg »

Chaos is 10!! A decade of madness. Below is a WIP list of noteworthy dates throughout Chaos history.

Please note that this is in fact an incomplete list. We're certain there are more noteworthy dates that still need to be nailed down, and/or corrections made. Not to mention how many more dates would be listed if we included every single thing like all the maps and/or skins released over time.

Cheers to every single person out there who has helped and/or played Chaos over the years.
(b)
Thank You!!

Still researching more details, but I can almost garauntee there was more ChaosDM work done in 1999, and maybe even another public release. Plus, we were waiting/getting ready for Unreal Tournament to be released.

July 23 2002 - ChaosUT Version 1 released (Unreal Tournament)

November 15 2004 - CUT2 PRv3.6 released

2005
------

No public releases in 2005.

However, there was still Lots of work being done on big items for ChaosUT2. So even though there were unfortunately no public releases, given the large amount of actual content creation that took place throughout the year, we feel it still counts.

The work done that year included very labor intensive areas such as:

the Chaos Hoverboard

the Chaos Bike

replacing ALL of the monsters (for the Chaos Horde Hunter game type) that were borrowed from someone else, with all new monsters that were made by chaos team members

not to mention tons and tons of code work, for sample of this a Huge changelog from September of 2005 can be seen here - http://chaotic.beyondunreal.com/c_archi ... ?view=cut2

2006
------

April 29 2006 - CUT2 PRv3.7 released (UT2004)

October 16 2006 - CUT2 PRv3.75 released (UT2004)

2007

------

Dug this up while looking at your stuff mark:

ChaosDM review from around June 24, 98:
http://web.archive.org/web/199812052104 ... chaos.html

Also, as of May 3, 1998 (but after Jan 14), the Chaos DM site was located on telefragged according to the Internet Wayback Machine.

April 1, 1998

"Beta 0.1a of the Chaos Deathmatch for Quake2 is out on their newly relocated homepage."

http://www.bluesnews.com/archives/march98-4.html

I guess you could call that the beginning of Chaos?

Edit: Guess I didn't look closely enough:

Also on that page:

April 3, 1998: "Version 0.1b of the Chaos Deathmatch patch for Quake II is out on their newly relocated homepage, fixing the "lasers stay on all the time" bug. Thanks Prophet."

March 30, 1998: "Beta.1 of Chaos Deathmatch for Quake II is out, featuring a swinging grappling hook, new weapons and power-ups."

I don't mean to be a party pooper but aren't we still in 2007? All the dates I see are for 1998. So, ummm, 2007-1998 makes 9 if my mind and calculator is working correctly.

I've confidence in the latter, not so sure 'bout the former. flaggrules

I'm simply counting each calander year that Chaos was public and playable.

But if you wanna be a stickler, and use the boring old traditional counting method  , then yeah..., based on the info Matt dug up, I'd say our 10th birthday will officially be March 30th next year.

Hah! Well good thing I have a calculator for back up!

And I have to say, that is one awesome emoticon code to make the smokin' smily to show.
