Can't start Chaos.

Can't start Chaos.

Well before I begin, I have played Chaos before, both for UT99 and UT2k4, in fact, I have played PR3.75, before. But now, whenever I run Chaos, it crashes shortly after starting (on the main menu). I flipped through the log-file myself and didn't find anything that screamed 'fix me'. So I don't know, but here's the log file, after a complete reinstall (first run after said reinstall):

So this looks like you did not even try to play a game, it just crashed on its own?

Nah, it's cool, I'm glad you're trying to help. I had meant I reinstalled Chaos, not UT. God, would take forever to reinstall it and the mods... >.< But yeah, I know the log is clean, thats why I couldn't figure it out myself. That, and I don't know what some of the stuff in the log means. I don't know, I never checked to see if the mod keeps anything in the registry, and when I reinstalled it I just deleted the chaos folder and slapped 3.7 then the 3.75 patch back on. I don't know, I'm willing to try basically anything save reinstalling UT itself, but I suppose if I'm left to nothing else, I can do that.

Nope you did it right...

Hmmm maybe we can have you do this. Rename your curret UT2004 dir. Re-install UT2004, patch it up to date, install chaos and see if that works? The beaty is that if it does not, you can delete the current UT2004 then restore from the renamed one... Now if it does work, then you may have to move those mods over.... sorry but other than that thats all i can think of :(

Well, I'll get back to you whenever I can. I hoped to avoid installing UT in any way, but then decided if I'm going to, I might as well, so I ripped out all the mods, and UT itself, and now its giving me some crap error when I try to start the installation for UT. Taking it up with Epic's forums, hopefully I can get some answers there. Thanks for the help in any event, JB.


EDIT: I fully reinstalled UT (figured out the problem myself) and I put Chaos 3.7 in. I then forgot that I hadn't put the Megapack in or patched UT or anything. So I threw the Megapack in, ran Chaos, and it crashed, but I figured, what the hell, ran it again, and it actually didn't crash at the main menu. I don't know how far I could've gotten, because I realized it was 3.7, not 3.75, so I patched Chaos, and now it won't run at all again.

The standard Unreal Tournament log has some unusual stuff, some of it is related to one of the Bonus Pack assault maps, and some related to one of the model/skins I have, but the Chaos Log is well, still clean. And I still can't get past the menu. I start it up and the menu sits for a bit, and then it just crashes. Don't need to do anything. Here's another log, though I don't think it will help, it is a bit shorter than the first.

The only thing that jumps out at me is the line saying it Failed, with what little I can get out of it, it seems like it's saying it failed at fetching my player data from my User.ini in the UT folder. Just a guess.


EDIT: Quick notice. I got bored and decided to click Botmatch as fast as I could (cause it crashes semi-quickly). So chaos started up, I clicked Botmatch really quick, and I went into the Mode Select menu, and Chaos stablized. I can sit at the main menu as long as I wish and it won't crash. So I guess it's kinda resolved, more or less.

Heh, yeah I know. It's still a little testy if I minimize it on any of the menus, usually crashes, but I checked the log and nothing. But ehh, as long as I don't minimize it and I quickly jump into one of the menus, it kinda stabilizes, and I can use it normally.
