Arma2 anyone?

I've only got the demo so far, but it's pretty darn neat.

Still can't get as high of FPS as I would like, but I'm optimistic that performance will be improved over time.

The large battles would be neat of course, but so would a private server with 3 or 4 buddies working the official and user-created campaigns in co-op mode against large AI forces.

Here's a neat video showing what it can be like with TrackIR. Thinking I'd like to be able to do that someday...

Got the full game now (off of Steam), and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes games with realistic type guns.

It comes with a ton of content, and lots of game types. Everything from smallish DM to big assed 'warfare/domination' type stuff where you have to take control of all the villages on massive maps (if you wanna play it that way... , this game supports very large numbers online - I've heard over 200 is possible - much more than 'MMO-ish' than other games that are falsely claiming that - like Parabellum or Huxley). And you can do it all against decent AI if you want.

I'm learning new stuff every day. You can play it on so many levels. Can't describe it all w/o getting very long winded (and even then I probably wouldn't be doing it justice), so I'll not even try. Sure, it has some bugs and glitches, but on a game this deep, I'd be surprised if it didn't. But I'm sure patches and stuff are on the way.

Plus it is mod friendly. Regular editor, plus a 'mission wizard' right in the GUI for folks who just wanna whip up some quickie custom SP missions for themselves.

Anyway, just fyi. I can't afford a server for it, but if you're in or near Dayton OH and wanna try out some co-op stuff in a listen server type of mode, let me know.

I've created my first Coop mission - it's called Midday Raid.

It features a couple of custom scripts by other folks

- the revive/respawn script by Norrin. Which means your game isn't over the moment you get shot. You can either get revived by your teammates where you dropped, or you can respawn at specified locations.

- Urban Patrol Script by Kronzky. This script means that you can have a sort of randomized enemy patrol in various zones of your map. You never know exactly where the enemy AI patrols are gonna be when you come looking for them.

Dorian and I often play on his listen server, let one of us know if you wanna come by and try it out.

There is one catch though, it takes place on an Arma1 map. You see, the folks who made the game have allowed anyone who owns Arma2, to download and add the entire Arma1 game to their Arma2 install (via a group of ambitious modders and their program). So you'd have to take the time to do that. But hey, 2 games for price of one, plus all the custom content from both games that you want. What a deal!

I just might make more too. Already planning my next one.

My second mission is well underway, already playable as beta. So far it's a simple 'raid the Islamic terrorist training camp, and kill all the bad guys' mission. Might keep it just that simple, or maybe add another "blow up certain objectives" part to it as well, not sure.

My 3rd mission will be in another locale, it's going to be about stopping a bomb in time before it explodes and collapses this really big bridge. I've already tested the bomb/bridge combo, and it does work. If you don't get there in time, it explodes, and the bridge falls in a nice dramatic way.

Could use another player for listen server, to help beta these and make suggestions.

Ciao.

Operation Arrowhead is out. Sweet. Demo coming as well.

I still haven't opened the wallet yet, though, 'cause I'm waiting on them to fix the (IMO) bots that got borked in a previous patch. But, having said that... I think they are going to fix them. They have ongoing public beta's, and have mentioned specifically AI behaviour as being on their to-do list.

Anyway. It's certainly not a sci-fi arena shooter, but still. Just FYI - for those interested in contemporary PC gaming done right.

- Built for PCs
- Single player and multi-player content
- Bots for offline Multi-player action
- Dedicated server software
- Great mod support and mission editor
- Demos
- Ongoing support
- etc

Long shot here --- if you play Arma2 and have made missions, please post them. I'd be happy to listen server co-op with you on them.

The missions I've made require mods. Seems only natural to me. I've always enjoyed mods, so downloading mods to play missions doesn't turn me off at all.

Mid-day Raid;

Porto Sweep

I think both of those also require the EditorUpdate, by Jon-C5.

Pretty sure I've got those fixed up. Haven't finished beta testing those though, 'cause it takes awhile to play each one all the way through, and so many variations can happen during play. If'n anyone wants to listen/co-op and help beta test, or just try them on your own, that'd be sweet.

For future missions I think I might be waiting on the 'all script' version of this;
http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=99753

The idea for making missions is to try to create some 'randomness', so that you can play them more than once, and have a fresh feel each time. You can already do that with various tools and tricks, but it's a ton of work, and with limited results (unless your a script-maestro, which I am not). Well, that tool will supposedly help with that. Creating missions that are very dynamic, so that even the author of the mission can't predict what will happen each time you play.

Another 'dynamic missions' tool being created;

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=101860

It's very cool how new tools are coming out, which make it easier and easier to set up dynamic missions.

With this latest tool... I'm gonna start by just forgetting about the standard objective based missions, just take 5 mins (or less) to populate an island with random enemies, and head out trying to 'kill 'em all'.

AND,... it will be different every time I play it. Set it up once, play it over and over, and have different experience each time. Sweet.

Cool. I have at least 2 of those old missions of mine redone now, I think they will work. At least they work on my solo tests. Actually I've redone then at least twice now, cause my hard drive died this past weekend, and I lost everything. But back now.

A new poster by name of Qman said he would play too... but haven't seen him post about it again. So.. not sure.

WB by the way.

You should see the custom made tropical island of Lingor.

A "home made" vid (I'm associated with it)

It's shamelessly exploiting the sandbox genre, with a bunch of gimmicks ;)

I bought the game a few weeks ago, just haven't gotten around to installing it :oops:
Arma2: Combined Opererations including Operation Arrowhead. Was there something else I needed too? I'm guessing I'll have to DL a few updates.
