True, but it its not like Larc was selling copywrited materials or stuff. And his maps are cool. So maybe it wasn't so bad... just maybe...

To be honest, his map was basically a less detailed arrrangement of my map. Theres no point in taking someone elses meshes and just haphazardly chucking them into a generic terrain. That is not mapping with a point.
My map wasnt a graphical masterpeice by any means, but i felt it created a feeling, an atmosphere, and the meshes were essentially the centrepiece of this effect. The other thing was, that these meshes were some of the first i made in maya, and was still learning - they're not great,but i still felt a sense of achievement in making them.
I dont mean to sound sharp with you kungi, forgive if i am, but if you play boneyard and compare it to this, you'll see what i mean. Its basically as if all he did was open my map and rearrange it. And as far as i can see, he didnt give me any credit at all for making the meshes - and would have passed them off as his own had i not stepped in (as ive noticed in almost every map he makes which uses CBP content aswell...).
Admittantly, this goes for textures, music and everything in a map l'arc - the EPIC stuff is completely usable, but tbh its not ok to use anything from custom maps such as hourences or angel mapper's or anyone else's without permission.
We all had to learn maya etc with varying degrees of success, so its not really cool to have someone then take a shortcut and just use our work without due credit. You wouldnt go and use some custom anims from the chaos team without permission, so tbh theres no excuse to do it with maps. If you need help with maya, just ask - theres plenty of really expericenced modellers like loq (although i think he prefers studiomax) etc who will help.
Especially since in this case, i feel the map is of a fairly basic stadard, and not really worthwhile releasing at all -its like a clan map or something. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but its what i think, especially as its a 25mb download - I could have churned that out in about a half hour, but to do so is fairly pointless. It adds nothing to the game, and nothing to the mod.
Remember, it is not quantity, but quality that makes mapping and gaming fun.

hmmm...i dont intend to aggrovate, but myLevel "borrowing" is a practise i hope to discourage.
anyway back to nice Venal
- if you have maya ple, there is a good in built tutorial that can be accessed from the help tab, i think. ive not got the prog here, but its there somewhere. And those meshes, well, they annoy me since the ribs are too angled. but hell, it was my first

I understand why u were in the first place. Since I've had similar experiences with material being plagirised, I agree with you completely. I think your maps are damn good and you have shown me where L'architecte copied stuff without permission. However, again from similar experiences on the other side, you're not being harsh with me, but maybe ur being too harsh to a possible number one fan of urs...
Maybe Larc really liked your meshes and that's why he took them. Maybe he liked the Duel-Boneyard (I know I did. It's third on my favourite duel maps list; Arena ][ and Deadspace being the first two). Maybe he just liked your long, unpronounceable name... I dunno. All I'm saying is, I think u might be overreacting a little.
It's just a hypothetical possibility...
Oh, yes, and I love playing devil's advocate, almost as much as CUT, even though joining Tim in the centre of Proxy King Lair would be a safer option...
PS: nice maya documentation! thx, even I've been looking for something like this for some time (Although I usually use an old, outdatted version of 3dsmax)

hmmm. i dont think i over reacted at all. Someone has to tell you if your doing something wrong, otherwise how will you ever know? I wont hold any of this personally against you l'arc, so chillax dude, im cool with it.
But, you have to understand what you did is not the done thing as regards serious mapping. I like the work you do that is original - duality was immense, and such a breath of fresh air , it was so good, so different -why do you not do that more often instead of remakes? you really do not need to use anyone else's materials when you do something original - the very fact that it is original means you shouldnt find pre made materials......
I know from experience that it can be quite hard to tell what is cool to use and what isnt, but the general rule is anything that doesnt have a readme saying you can use it is out without permssion. I think i did include the readme i wrote for boneyard, and im sure it says dont use my stuff. Its pretty common.
I didnt mean to sound really harsh, i wanted to come accross more as it being some advice. View it as a "dont do it again - but chill im not angry" lesson. The simple fact is that it can be quite serious to do things like that - im sure your all aware of the hassle using EE's monsters in HH did -hence why HH has been totally re done almost. Although we werent aware they were "borrowed" it still caused quite a hassle.
Im cool if you lot like my work - personally, i didnt think boneyard was that good - but then i criticise everything i do. Argh im so pessimistic.
And dont worry about making meshes in UEd - anything like simple wooden bridges, concrete bases etc can be made from BSP and converted, as this is usually simpler than maya. I only use maya for complex stuff, and even then, my work is not that complex as i simply dont have the skills. As for textures etc, there are plenty of websites that offer free to use and freely distributable texture suitable for ut2004. just google "texures" and youll find tons. If all else fails, get the digital camera out and take some, or play with photoshop until you get the results. Patience often brings pretty awesome stuff...

hi all am back from holidays I had a few days at sea, and no computer with me, so no new maps
oh some points I d like to precise :
1- this last map is not a remake of any existing duel maps. I only "borrowed" your meshes Venal, meshes from ons-yorda, and hourences tex for the skybox.
2- I stopped working on remakes for a long time, so I dont open maps to change only the dm into duel gametype !!! I am enough skilled to make my own maps (but not my own meshes)
3- Drymouth and DesertGrave are my 2 favorite duel maps, I really love em, as you can see, they inspired me a lot
Thanks to you Venal I ll try to make my own meshes with maya. You can believe me, I hadnt any bad intentions about using part of your work.
I hope all the new and young mappers who are reading this post will understand that not getting permission for borrowed materials is unbareable.
I have known all about these situations before this, but I was so excited to make so many maps so quickly that I forgot to join the author. So make sure all is ok with permission, even if you have to ask for each texture/staticmesh. This is very important.

Les symptomes :

4-Il ne redémarre pas, parce qu'il affiche toujours le même truc, et je vous écris de mon vieux pc (qui fonctionne encore lol mais qui ne supporte pas ut)

3-This morning I was playing on a new map, the same problem with the textures happened. I quick exit the game, thinking this is not normal, and then the computer turned out on its own. It tries to reboot but the windows loading screen is black with green vertical lines on the left side, and some white pixels in the middel
4-My computer doesnt reboot anymore, always the same black screen with green lines. So I am writing this post with another comp (an old one that cant support ut lol)"
