It's not energy exactly. It's actually a standard 50 caliber bullet which is wrapped in an electromagnetic shell caused by the pulsation of an energy cell within the gun, a "pulsed bullet" as it were. The shell projects a force around the bullet which does not effect its travel, but gives it a reflective property when it hits matter solid enough to deflect it (like a wall). Players won't stop or reflect bullets (unless blocked with a melee weapon), the bullets just punch right through the player and keeps going. The bullets will reflect a number of times. When two pistols are held close enough to each other, thier electomagnetic cells interface. The charge increases and intensifies the pulse shell surrounding the bullets, causing them to give off intense electromagnetic bursts when colliding with any target. This allows them to push people they hit, and even, in rare cases, pick them up and carry them short distances -- at least until something blocks the player's path. Otherwise the bullets just punch through like normal. Akimbo-fired bullets could maybe have a few more reflections added to them than normal pulse bullets.
I think we could consider allowing shields to destabilize the energy shell around the bullet when passing through the shield, preventing it from pushing someone when they have shields.

well that sounds better than what I thought... I am just a little worried due to the fact that another handgun I know of (the scifi handgun from Timesplitters/TS2) had bouncing bullets that made it extremely annoying to use. but hitting a person more than once with one shot sounds promising...
but does that mean that in rare cases , you could shoot someone ,and have the bullet bounce back through them and hit yourself???
also , a headshot with a cutterblade should allow the blade to continue on , after all it didnt get stuck , if it cleaves the head off....

Exactly. The way I intended it was that the CPP should be the kind of weapon anyone can figure out how to use (a starting weapon should be), but should work in such a way that practice and intelligence can make it truly deadly. Any noob can use it, of course, and even do moderately well with it, but it is just a starting weapon, so most newbies will move on to something else when they can. However, due to the weapon's dynamics, a true expert could rack up some seriously impressive kills with it. The bouncing bullets would pose as much a threat to the shooter as to the target in the right environments. I figure if the bullets can bounce about 6-7 times, one would need to be very careful about how to use them. Sure, you may be able to hit that poor sap twice by bouncing the bullet off the wall behind him, but be mindful of the trajectory or you could be just as likely to nail yourself as well, multiple times in fact. Gives a whole new meaning to "Do unto your neighbor as you would have them do unto you". Like other weapons, a headshot will deal double damage, so try not to shoot yourself in the head with it...
Another thing is that its initial ammo count is pretty low (probably will only have 6 shots to start with). But CPP ammo pickups (replaces AR grenade pickups) will probably contain bout 18 to 24 rounds, and, of course, you can take CPP's from dead players for extra ammo and the venerable akimbo style... Not sure what the max ammo count will be... Of course none of this is currently etched in stone, and stuff will get changed during testing too...
As for aesthetics, the idea I have in my mind for the CPP is that it's based on a cross between the Colt .45 Revolver and the Desert Eagle, mixed with futuristic designs and a few Chaotic touches. Each shot produces a cloud of gunsmoke which shoots out the barrel. If possible I'd also like to make it so the barrel smokes a bit after each shot. I've already designed emitters for these effects. Ideally, in a CPP arena game, it should look like an old western...
I might even create an old-west style map later on and try it out...

normal UT2003 has a shotgun, its called the "flak cannon" high damage at close range, very poor at a distance.
if we do have a shotgun it would be cool if it had a reload animation similiar to the one i think arnold used in T2. He flipped it over it wrist to pull the guard back and eject the shell.

Given that the MUG will use compressed air to do its thing, we could probably build in a shotgun ammo type. Just use a canister of pellets and suddently the MUG becomes a shotgun!
Then, imagine the possibilities -- Acid pellets, which burn through players upon contact, or electroshock pellets, which savagely zap the poor sucker who gets hit...
The pellets should be able to bounce maybe once or twice... Could make it very tricky to use in extremely close quarters. Perhaps some pellets punch through players, others bounce off them (and still cause damage), possibly hitting the shooter too... Maybe once pellets ran out of bounces, they fall to the floor and roll around. Anyone walking on them will slide around as if standing on a surface with zero ground friction.
That could get very chaotic...

Not only does Chaos need a shotgun, I also thinks it needs an automatic weapon (Machine Gun, Assault Rifle, Minigun, etc.) of some sort. Being a creative freak, would it be possible for the "shotgun of chaos" be a bit different then a normal shotgun? Unreal (and UT and 2k3) tryed a different shotgun style wepaon, rather then just using a plain shotgun, the use a different weapon for the same use and it worked out well called the Flak Cannon, as jeditobe1 said (in a way). I understand the Flak Cannon is not a shotgun and is what it is (Flak Cannon = Flak Cannon), if you know what I mean. Is it possible for there to be a close range shotgun style weapon, but different?

If we use my MUG w/ pellet ammo idea, perhaps primary fire would be like a normal shotgun blast and alt fire would "stream" the pellets out like a machinegun.

That actually would work out also
. Seems like along with the Chaos Pulse Pistols and that (plus other stuff I forgot), your good at coming up with ideas. Along with the pellets, what other ammo types does the MUG have? IMO, I think one ammo type should be air or something to recreate the UT Utility Gun alt fire. I loved pushing people around, even more on Hyperblast
. Should the firing modes for the MUG Pellet ammo be switched around as the machine might be used more often the shotgun blast (or will you let spaw firing modes take care of that)? Now that I think about it, this could be kind of like the Chaos Stinger some people were talking about.
