More realistic melee damage

Post by Kaboodles »

Here are some suggestions to make damage due to melee weapon hits more realistic and less likely to piss people off when they lose :P

1. Location based damage - More damage should be inflicted upon vital areas and less in the arms and legs.

2. Damage should depend on what part of the swing makes contact with the opponent. I've heard many complain that I manage to hit them hard even when the axe has stopped moving.

3. Damage should also depend on what part of the weapon strikes the body. Less damage is inflicted if you hit with the tip of the blade, and more damage at the more painful-looking parts of the weapon (like the ridges near the base of the Bastard Sword's blade). This should help make longer spear/halberd type weapons more balanced.

4. I think that a successful defensive block should completely end the attack of the opponent as well as the block itself, and prevent the opponent from performing an attack for a short time (half a second, maybe). However, the opponent should be able to perform a block of his own.

5. Not really damage related, but I think there are too many block animations, and many of them appear useless. The backwards block looks pretty silly. :D

These changes would make the game more realistic without changing the way game is really played.

PS: I don't really want these changes to take place, but I'm sure others would. I really like the current melee system!

if that was done people would really say the Axe is rigged, imagine the Katana!! or weapons that have a arc like the Axe...too over powered they'd become...

lol i think u should be able to slice parts of the body off. like only an arm or something it should be hard to do but use it as an insult in duel lol

right now we have a clear set of goal to work on. When we get those done we can come back and look at these. Most of these changes are simple to do. Not saying that we will do them. Just saying that these things would only take one coder some small amount of time to do. However testing them and ensure they were correct takes longer.

Good ideas cept for the first one. The melee's are already overpowered enough, a simple lunge stab in the arm/leg can take 100 health down to 10. Why else would i run my damage mut! cmon woman!

I'm not saying you should increase damage to vitals, but decreasing damage to limbs would work just fine.
