It's hackerspeak. granted, real hackers never use it nowdays(they did a long, long time ago so that their convorsations would not show up on search engines), but baisically it's substituting similar looking numbers for letters. 1=l, 3=E, 7=T, so translated you get "LEET" or "L-EET" or "elite". 1337 is also the name of the hackerspeak system, as in "L337 hacker" or as some people like to put it "1337 H4XX0R".

Ooooohhhhhhhh KOOL!. There is a guild in Ragnarok India Online which is called 'The Divine 1337s'. i always wondered why...

That number would be pretty awsome but i don't think that is to accurate.I know the night we released our last public update we had the most people online at our forum ever :)
