I am having difficlty joining 2 server

1 is psycos lair
2lowping frag festMa

it keeps returning with none standard connection
connection refused why?
what have you done at the server that is different to every one else

I've been unable to conect to at least 2 servers.. the moo one and another ... i guees because of the version of Q2 I use : 3.21

Some of the servers run Q2Admin or something like that... you have to reconnect to join. The purpose of the reconnect is to prevent cheats.

"none standard connection, connection refused" would be a bw setting....

Are you using MS internet sharing to share your connection with another pc... bw isnt allowing you to connect because you don't have a standard port # when you connect to the server.


Another problem connecting... is when the server setting are all capitol letters for the "game" and "gamedir" setting... those settings are case senitive. On my windows system, a "reconnect" command will usually get me connected. (it's not the same for every system... some will have no problem)

Server Admin's.... The following should be in the server.cfg file:

set gamedir "chaos"
set game "chaos"

You should check your chaos folder name... make sure it's all small case letters... and that the server you are going to is also the same.... it's worth a try

no is not the dir name... i know that is case sensitive, this server is called CHAOS instead of chaos

now, the "FIX" is to not use xqf for the moo servers (why, dunno but it works)
use the "copy IP" feature and type:
[guest3@rafamex guest3]$ ./Q2 +set game chaos +connect 192.216.112.20:27910
and it works, well in linux

It looks like a password problem.... Is it possible that you have a:

set password "xxxxxx"

somewhere in one of your config files?

A player will be refused connection, if they have a password set and the server has NO password (like mootown).

Search all your .cfg files for a "set password xxxxxx" and if found, removed, comment it out a // at the start the that line or change it to:

set password ""
