DRIVE SAFELY.

September 16th, I was filming a movie with a friend of mine, as I am prone to do often. Our present project required us to get shots of the high gas prices around town, but at the pumps , our camera battery died. so, as protocol dictates, we drove home to recharge it.

we did not make it. roughly less than A mile from my house My friend lost control of his vehicle, and we went off the road. The Truck hit a large tree stump with the left front tire, and we were sent into the air twenty feet. into a small ravine. we came down on the drivers side, and my friend fell out of the driver window, The truck proceeded to roll, and the passenger door was sheared from the vehicle. at this point. My right arm is being thrown out and over the roof of the truck, bent at the elbow. My Right leg is also outside of the truck. I proceeded to roll 5 times before coming to a stop in an area of muddy water. I was fully aware throughout the entire crash, I cannot guess how long the crash took, to me it seemed like minutes but it couldnt be more than ten seconds. My friend got to me and pulled me out of the truck, where I collapsed and passed out. My life flashed before my eyes. a second set of friends of mine who had been following Managed to pull me to dry land, and get an emergency vehicle to the scene. We rushed to a local airfield and airlifted to seperate hospitals in seperate cities.

In the aftermath of a single moment of misjudgement, My friend lost his 2003 Ford F-150 truck , and many expensive personal possessions.
at the hospital I was found to have internal bleeding in three areas of my small intestines , and no blood flow to my appendix. With surgery both the appendix and the dammaged sections of intestines (18 inches total) were removed. add that to a broken tibula and a bruised hip. and I'd say I got off Lucky.
This Ordeal has been the most traumatic experience of my life, and yet, I Value Greatly the change in my life and my thinking it has brought.

I knew it was a good idea to drive safely. My friends always look me kinda wierd, cause I go by the book. I tell you that: It's better to miss to work than to get disabled and even dead 'cause you were in a hurry. Or if you wanted to look cool.
I'd show them this post, but they don't understand english ("Helo, i spoke, can Englisch!")

Well, actually I don't drive by the book all the time, but most of the time. I may have gotten 1 or 2 mph over the limit at moments (speed indicator aint precise enough anyway).
Also, it always feels so good to laugh at people not following the rules. Other drivers should have good guys as a sample. Or go to the driving school.

Speaking of rules, most people don't use turn indicators here in Slovenia. They probably think "Who cares, I'll slip through this junction like nothing, those guys know where I'm going anyway cause I'm where the left turn arrow is. Yup, sure, everyone sees that."

What's the big deal in following the rules of the road?

well the accident wasnt caused by not following the rules of the road really. The driver just lost control and ended up going a little too fast around a less than forgiving curve. Once a car gets skidding its not an easy thing to correct. and for the record, no alcohol was consumed or any other substances.

but yeah. Good driving is necessary and understated in our society.

Ouch! Yaar, Pepito, hope you get better soon and also hope you(or any other for that matter) never get into such an accident again...

Man, that sounds painful...

Pfff! Now you try colliding head-on into a levi with the scorp! Also, pepito, I know that guy followed the rules. Cause you didn't mention that he would not follow.

I was just restating the point to underline that even when you're a safe driver, following the rules, theres still a lot of danger.

Nice advice about the don't gamble with cars thingy - though including other vehicles would be good

I like tanks, you can park anywhere on the parking lot

Reminds me of the greatest Action/Adventure/Comedy/Disaster movie of all time...... "The Big Bus". That thing had a swimming pool, bowling alley and a nuclear powered engine! I still have nightmares about Stockard Channing nearly drowning in the water-tight galley when the soda machines malfunctioned. Oh the humanity!
