Unreal Editor help

Post by Warhammer »

Just saying Hi'ya to you all, since I have not posted any problems in the last few days (or was it weeks?), but after visiting Unreal Playground for UT maps I was inspired to try some maps of my own, but how do you get the editor to work, it loads up fine abit a little slow (at least it doesn't crach the computer occasionally like my WarIII editor) but once inside I can't do anything, well I can select shapes and view them from their sides and dynamic lighting but nothing else. Is there a comprehensive help guide 'cause my help file doesn't work (everything in the help menu is gray and non-functioning), and one more thing how do you export music to a format recognizable by media players because unreal ED exports it as a S3M file format (what the hell is that anyways :?: ), is there a special file converter for the music or what? The only one I got is RazorLame which is supposed to be the best music encoder around, but it does nothing when I try to load up the file because there are a few good tracks I downloaded with the maps and I would like to burn them onto CD.
Oh yes one more thing, FurrySound my friend offered to burn the nodelta patch onto a RW cd for me and also use the burners at school (turns out there is one working CD burner in the entire school, thats hooked up to the net) to add on a few map packs i'm missing (texture files SG1Tech and such). And always thanks for your help guys, kudos to you all :) :D :) :D :!: :!: :!: .

Woh, first. it sounds like you either have a bad install or havnt installed any of the patches for UT. I would install the 436 patch and all 4 bonus packs. this should bring you up to Ued2.0. It has a few bugs bu it runs alot better then 1.0. I dont think my help files ever worked. heh

Second, i would search around the web for some tutorials. ther are alot of them out there. here is one to get ya started ;)

http://unreal.gamedesign.net/

There are alot of programs out there that do the music for Unreal. Mod tracker is one of them. Check out this site it has all kinds of music for Unreal.

http://www.unrealrocks.com/

as for burning some of the music to CD, Well i would sugjest that you get permission from the author before you do that. To be honest with you, this is someones work. They put time into it and own all rights to the material. I know i would get more then alittle upset if someone was transfering my work to mediums that i had not intended it for without permission. Ask them, They will prolly convert it to a mp3 for you. and give you the ok. ;)

I hope this helps :)

Thanks for the information, I didn't know people made their own music for UT but now I know and that probably will save me huge amounts of problems in the future.
