R.Flagg's recommended CCTF map list & settings

Post by R.Flagg »

Just like map suggestion lists I've posted before, I realize this may or may not interest anyone else, and perhaps won't inspire conversation. That's fine. But for anyone interested in trying out ChaosCTF, I would recommend you try it this way at least once, before making any judgments about the game type.

ChaosCTF supports both regular and vehicle maps in one map rotation. And while it's great that folks take the time to create maps for the community ( I Do Love Mappers! ), I share the sentiment of many other players out there.... some maps do more harm to a game type than good. And really bad maps in a server's rotation can easily chase away potential players.

Anyway, with that in mind, here are some maps I'd recommend trying with ChaosCTF, or even better, running on your ChaosCTF server.

Aedes-final
Altract
BollwerkRuins2004-Pro
BraveNewWorld
CBP1 (all 4 included CTF maps)
CBP2-Gazpacho
CBP2-Pistola
CE-Setekh
Citadel
Coldfront-SE
Confrontation
Divergence
EternalCaves-Classic
FaceClassic
Face3
FBU-Veiled
Flag Pack (all 11 maps)
Flag Pack 2 (all 6 maps)
Gralada
GrassyKnoll
GrendelKeep
Hall of Giants 2004
Hydro64
LavaGiant Classic v3
LostFaith
Magma
MoonDragon
Orbital2
Orodruin
Smote
UCMP1 (all 3 included CTF maps)
UCMP2 (all 6 included CTF maps)
Unearthed_SE_2004
VCTF-AbattoirIsland
VCTF-AbattoirIslandIceECE
VCTF-CE-SubMagma
VCTF-EasterIsland
VCTF-FBU-AkhaRu
VCTF-IceFields_V2
VCTF-Lapse
VCTF-MistyGlen
VCTF-LonesomeGlen-SE
VCTF-Ophelia-RE
VCTF-StripMine][
VCTF-UP-Ice
VCTF-UP-MilitaryFortPT
VCTF-WGS-SummerValleyECE

This list is still being edited. Please feel free to make suggestions.

And keeping in mind that even the greatest maps won't play well with mismatched player loads. LonesomeGlen for example is a wonderful map, but with 4 players it may not seem like it. Likewise 10 or 16 on Maul. Voting for maps online that match the playerloads available can go a long way towards improving your fun-factor.

There is also a bazillion settings a person can change, and it's all personal preference. There is no right or wrong. But for me, myself, and I... these would be my CCTF settings for an online server:

Caps at either 3 or 5
Time limit anywhere from 20 to 30
GravBelts set to either random spawn or 'super', 45-60 sec duration
Chaos weapons set to Cycle, but no CPP, crossbow, or MUG
Chaos vehicles set to Off
Chaos Relics On, except for speed and vengeance
Flag-grappling Off (I like it On, but only for more experienced Chaos players)
Manta Meat On
