I distinctly recall having Chaos available through custom game types within UT2. I have had to reinstall the game a few times but have not been able to get a fresh install with the same configuration; it only shows up in the mutator list. What have I done incorrectly?
For reasons I can not figure out Chaos messes up my weapons database. I eventually get the problem sorted out but I am curious why it happens. The shield gun and at some point in the process all the Chaos weapons show up as a lightning gun.
I have multiple entries of the Chaos models under player. It bothered me so I decided I would try and fix it. I backed up my manifest and moved the Chaos folder and then reinstalled. This did not sort it out. It did however remove ProxyKing from the list which bothered me ever more so I then put everything back the way it was but Proxy was still gone. What happened there? Proxy is my favourite Chaos model. Again, what have I done to screw up. Is Proxy included with 3.7 or the patch or some other thing I am unaware of?
Can I get Chaos installed so that it is available as a custom game type under Instant Action? How do I get ProxyKing back?
Quirks with install

Sorry for your trouble. To show up in the custom game list it has to have a folder and a mod ini file named: UT2k4Mod.ini that has to be inside the main mod folder:
C:\ut2004\chaosut2 = Mod Folder
C:\ut2004\chaosut2\UT2k4Mod.ini = Mod file
Can you check to ensure you have these two items? What file did you use to install chaos (UMOD or ZIP)? There should have been a short cut to start Chaos dir, have you tried that?
Hmmm that is weird. I have never head/seen this before. For reasons I can not figure out Chaos messes up my weapons database. I eventually get the problem sorted out but I am curious why it happens. The shield gun and at some point in the process all the Chaos weapons show up as a lightning gun.
I know with earlier versions of the mod we had to play around with the player upl files to get the default players to show up with chaos. But with this last few versions this is not the case. As now we dont have to modify a thing.I have multiple entries of the Chaos models under player. It bothered me so I decided I would try and fix it. What I would do is this
1) Remove any and all chaos files from your main ut2004\system dir.
2) Reinstall Chaos using the 3.7 FULL install using either UMOD or Zip. I would recomend using the UMOD as that will place the short cuts to start Chaos dir for you as well as make all needed edits to the main UT2004s. Make sure you click on the option to make Chaos MUT run in normal UT2k4.
3) Update to the Chaos 3.75 patch.
If this does not help, please cut and paste your chaosut2.log file here so we can help you. Again sorry for your trouble!

Thank you for the info. I did figurre out why my weapons DB was getting messed up. Turns out that I had bound a chaos crosshair to the shield gun and when I removed chaos, with nothing to point at, it choked. Shortly after I made this post I had a major PC meltdown and haven't had the time to get UT up a running properly. When I do I am confident that your directions will sort out my issue and all will be well.

I now have a completely fresh install. Thinking that the ECE Mod Installer may have been the culprit (DVD version) I decided against installing Chaos using that method. I then ran the 3.7 umod. Curiously though "click on the option to make Chaos MUT run in normal UT2k4" appeared at the patch and not during the 3.7 umod install. Also I did not get a Chaos shortcut placed on my desktop.
I do have a Chaos folder within UT. D:UT2004\ChaosUT2 and inside it...UT2K4Mod.ini, just as you have outlined in your origianl reply. However, Chaos does not appear under Custom Game type.
Here is my ChaosUT2_Evolution ChangeLog_2004.txt. Yikes...that is alotta reading! I do hope that this is what you intended me to include because there isn't anything else. Thanx in advance.

I went ahead and edited out the copy/paste of our changelog for you Squirt. That is actually written by Joe, and is not needed at this time. What he actually needs is the UT2004.log or the Chaosut2.log, which (we hope) shows what the game was thinking at the time of your issues.
From the sticky in tech section:
- If you are playing a standard game type with the Chaos mut, the log you want is UT2004.log, and it is located in your UT2004\System folder.
- If you are playing a Chaos game type, the log you want is ChaosUT2.log, and it is located in your UT2004\ChaosUT2\System folder.
The log file is overwritten each time you play, so wait for the issue to occur, and then go copy/paste the log file at that time.
You can still get a shortcut on your desktop manually, and it only takes a minute. Directions for this should be in readme and manual.
Thanks for trying Chaos. Hope you get it working and have fun.

We simply forgot to add that check-box option at the time of the 3.7 release, but added it back for the patch.Curiously though "click on the option to make Chaos MUT run in normal UT2k4" appeared at the patch and not during the 3.7 umod install.
