So a ball park figure on Chaos for UT3?
EToF= Estimated time of fragging.
We could still use a bit of help in the coding department.
Chaos Minions: Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to search to the ends of this realm, and any other dimensions you discover on your quest, for someone to help bring this beast we know of as ChaosUT3 to life.
Good luck

Just to clarify a bit more... , the news is not good.
We have had some potential coders come around, newer guys just learning UScript, and pretty much all of them have left. After all, Chaos is not a simple mutator you can whip up with practically no experience. What we are asking for is quite a lot of coding, and most of it is pretty involved. I think most of them felt pretty overwhelmed and under prepared, and decided to back off.
We have a couple guys still poking around, but they are still getting familiar with the engine and it's code. They alone will not be able to produce what we know as "Chaos". It will require more help.
So - to be perfectly clear on this - there is no reason at this time to expect that Chaos for UT3 will ever be completed. We just haven't found the talent required to do so, since Jb left.
This really should not come as a surprise though, considering how - and let's be honest here - considering how UT3 flopped. It just wasn't the game we had hoped for. It's very hard to recruit for a mod when the game itself can't even seem to manage more than a few hundred players online. I'm sure you folks have all seen the server browser, and it's not pretty.
Add to that the fact that UT3 simply is not as mod-able as previous versions. There is a lot more 'native' code this time around, and not everything we did before is even going to be possible. Just to give you one example we've learned so far, custom game types for mods cannot even have custom game rules menus. Granted, that's not the end of the world, but it sure isn't a good sign either (because that's so very, very basic for a supposedly 'mod friendly' game).
I fully expect to hear many more limitations like that (involving our weapons and features) as various folks get further along with their other, non-Chaos projects. If Jb were still with us, we'd probably already know a lot more about what UT3 will not allow, but for now I have to just keep listening in around the net, to things other folks are running into.
So that's the bad news. Please do not even begin to misinterpret this as any kind of 'failure' on the part of the talented guys who have been with us since CUT3 was planned. The guys that are here, have done an amazing job of trying to keep the flames burning. No... this is a failure of Epic, and UT3. You simply cannot blame a mod team for not finding a sufficiently talented coder, when the game isn't selling, and the online servers are a barren wasteland. Many of the folks who have the skills, just aren't interested.
Ok... having said all that, some of us are still interested. We have lost a few, due to the situation (Kodiak is the most recent to move on, just so you know), but some of us are still here. Still hoping, still wanting to deliver. And quite frankly, IF it did happen, I feel quite strongly that we would simply Own the mod scene for this game. Why? Well, because I have seen and read about what else is being developed for this game, and it's not much, and those that are getting worked on... well, quite frankly, I feel they picked the wrong projects. What talent is there working, is working on things that are, in my opinion, quite forgettable. Of course that's an opinion, but there it is, take it or leave it.
So until we find someone who has the type of skills that we lost in Jb, we can not promise that you'll ever see Chaos for UT3. That certainly does not have to mean the end of Chaos though. We may just have to sit on the mod for some time, and await a better game. This could be a very long wait.
So, I apologize for being so blunt, but sometimes the truth hurts, and it has to be said.
Long Live Chaos.

that sux. UT3 does have a sucky UI. You almost have to wonder if Epic didn't know what a PC game UI should look like. I am all for a quake 4 chaos, but that is up to you guys. It would be nice to see a Q4 version. To be honest the UT3 levels sucj to, Deck is a gray copy cat of Deck 17. I vote quake 4.

Glad to see you again after a long time
Coding is a really hard task, but I have started coding stuff last during last summer.
I d be happy to help you but I still dont have UT3 and I havent planned to buy for the moment.
I am currently working on the next public release of the LinUT mod (coding and mapping part), and we got so much work to do... The PR may come out in the middle of august (I hope).
We need help from coders too as you can expect
Sorry if I cant help for the moment. Anyway keep working !

Be excessive.
real sad to hear the truth as you say, but this doesn't make
me feel pesimist, i will continue what i'm doing and we
will see what the future brings, just let's give it some hope.
As for the coders, i could not get in touch wit any of them, too bad.
It took me some time to come back to the forums, had some personal
probs to solve.
So, just let's wait and see.

Don't worry, we'll be patiently waiting...
I mean, I'm still waiting to play UT3. I've got the dang CD, but I still don't have the right graphics card. So now I'm buying a new comp. But that will be only after some time. AHHHHH...!

So, as I was saying, we'll wait.

HP pavilion t250i. 5 years old. Graphics card is Radeon 9200, without pixel shader 2.0. UT3 gets installed, but can't be played. And there are no Radeon 9600s available near me, and the only graphics cards available are incompatible with my comp...Deathstorm wrote:What kind of system you have?

I would assume he's going to need a lot more than a new graphics card to play UT3.
Also, CompUSA? I thought they went down?
