I prefer the katana much more then most two sided swords. One of my fav. swords is the double black stick katana.

Nrgh!

Such comments are preternaturally annoying to any true sword lover, such as myself. I will gladly assume that you are misinformed rather than malicious and therefore in need of
education rather than
punishment.
Please don't do that again.
Edit: found slightly better punishment, but it needs more... oomph. lil' help?

Maybe
this or even better,
this? I could find better but i think those have oomph. The Sun Crusher, for instance, small as a fighter, industructable, hard to see, and more powerful than the deathstar.
And about the 200 pounds, the story that i read that had the one i was talking about mentioned something similar to that number if i remember, because only the strongest men in the story could lift them and swing them. The idea wasnt really to cut, it was to crush.

Well, Im no Sword expert or any thing. But i have heard of the type of sword that Jeditobe is talking about. Iv never seen one in real life, but have seen it in many drawings and Games. They are a little larger then a claymore. Claymore...... MMMMMMMM the Blade of my Lineage. ( yes, This means that LoQ is Scottish. His facial hair grows a bright red, but his hair would be dirty blond, IF he could grow it. HAHAHA)
By the way Azerael, I do believe that you have used preternaturally in the wrong context. I could be wrong
preternaturally:
1.Out of or being beyond the normal course of nature; differing from the natural.
2.Transcending the natural or material order; supernatural.

got news for you. any sword that weighed that much would be impossible to swing, much less use with any control whatsoever. I have a 5 foot claymore, and it weighs about 6 pounds, and thats a high estimate.

As i said, its meant to crush things rather than cut them. Get it going and let it bowl over people. 200 was an exageration i guess, but its basically a glorified steel bludgeon.

I think I should bring enlightenment into this thread:
I've already seen such a sword... in a museum... the blade was 2 meters long! And the guide of the museum told us that these kind of swords were used in the later Middle Ages, the longer swords should extend the range of its carrier and give him an advantage over enemies with medium range weapons, for example it was a time when the halberd was used. The sword is indeed very heavy, it can be only hold with both hands and it wasn't designed for fast strokes but to increase the range because of the usage of more medium range weapons...
The time of these unhandy swords didn't last very long because these kinds of weapon were used in a time when they became more and more "old-fashioned", it was at the end of the time of medieval warfare.
This time was detached very soon with a totally different kind of warfare, keyword: black powder...

Turns out i was thinking of a combination of the greatsword and a bastard sword, the greatsword is actually double the length (6ft, i edited the original post to reflect this).
Heres a clip i found about it:
This heavy, double-edged sword with cross-tee hilt is six feet in length, and thus demands great strength to wield. However, using the greatsword is an art, requiring some deftness to whip it about in meaningful arcs. While a greatsword can slash (in a fashion) it is meant to smash things apart. This weapon is a two- handed weapon; it is so large that even the biggest and strongest warriors must use two hands to wield it.
I found a few images, heres one (if it works):
Edit: thought i should mention that in real life im more a fan of the bo/quarterstaff. The quickness and dexterity needed i find more interesting, though i did and still do like martial weapons of many types. I just dont study the weapons so much as i absorb the techniques.
Second Edit: I will admit that you probably know more about swords than i do. And your comment has made me teach myself a bit more about them

No hard feelings, it is just that i dont like being completely wrong or uninformed about something, and always try to redeem myself.

Hallelujah! Another lost soul saved from the pit of ignorance.

Sorry if i was a bit harsh earlier, but I was hoping to enligten, rather than merely set alight.

As for knowing more, just check the boards at the site I linked earlier, if you haven't already - those people know way more than I.

I checked out some of those sites
Almost made me want to find a quote to use in my sig from a book i read a while back. Something like: "A lightsaber is an interesting weapon. It has no sharp edge, yet it can cut in any direction" There was more to it and that is paraphrased, but i might just go and find it.

i prefer scimitars and sickles. or a double-barrelled sawed-off shotgun. the best polearm is the ahrlspiess, and the best close range melee is a spiked or sharpened flanged mace. maybe a stick with some meathooks on chains...

I'll take the pointed stick if you will...
{Monty Python - Banana defense}
[...]
Sgt.: We haven't done them, have we? Right. Bananas. How to defend yourself against a man armed with a banana. Now you, come at me with this banana. Catch! Now, it's quite simple to defend yourself against a man armed with a banana. First of all you force him to drop the banana; then, second, you eat the banana, thus disarming him. You have now rendered him 'elpless.
Palin: Suppose he's got a bunch.
Sgt.: Shut up.
Idle: Suppose he's got a pointed stick.
