Would be nice if we could use it to replace the shieldgun. Then people might actually use melee weapons at least a little more in Chaos DM.

how about having shields have a twist,like instead of medium shield have
plasma shield:powered from self generated plasma energy,as the method of power generation is quite new the forcefields shrink and grow during battle..
pressing block:make a full frontal forcefield for 1.5 sec,after that the shield dissapears for 10 sec

also pressing awo could change where the shield is held,allowing to block different blows

How about an energy-based melee weapon that can take the shape of any of the existing melee weapons and can project the shield gun's shield as a secondary? You would use it like any normal melee weapon when you attack, and use the shield to block. Since it's energy-based, it should be lighter and give wielders a speed advantage over gun users.

Everyone would use it! trying to balance that would be a major headache.

Well, make it restricted to games with guns in it! Make it as an option to replace melee weapons or like the CPP replaces the Assault Rifles. You can also have it as a weapon option Duel.

Kaboodles, you read my mind. What software do you use to do that (read my mind)?

I was thinking that when a player goes into 'melee mode', their AWO makes them change their 'option hand'. When somebody is changing their weapon, the weapon only in that hand changes, as long as it is a melee weapon or an assault rifle or a CPP.

Eg: In CCTF, I have possesion of a katana, pair of daggers,a CPP and a flak cannon. If I select the katana, it goes into my rigt hand (that's my default). When I choose my AWO, there should be a notification of my option hand changing, and then I can only cycle through the melee/one handed guns, which appears on my left hand. There should also be an option for no weapon. When I use the AWO again, the weapon cycling should revert to normal.

BTW, this would work with shields also. Primary fire would make your gun and melee wep fire simultaneously. Secondary fire would make your shield and melee wep block simultaneously. A gun can't block and a shield can't attack. Also, a shield can't be chosen as a right(default) handed weapon. It can only be selected with the AWO.
