One thing I want to see is melee ONS levels that are not "tiny" by any means, for example Dria, but use vehicles to make the scale of the level seem smaller. I agree with jb that melee plus vehicles is fun. Its just harder to balance.
The dual Assault thing is IMHO a great idea. Assault seems like it can be too heavily weighted towards one side based on level design more easily than the other modes where attack/defense have to be more balanced. Overlord in '99 was great, but if you had a less than stellar group of teammates, it could be difficult to the point of frustration. The same goes with the crop of levels in 2k4. The mix of attack/defense that that style of Assault mode requires to succeed might help out the team concept better and introduces something that like Duel and Chaos CTF, expands play. If it is still possible to have the official maps included as part of the maplist and still have the new-style maps at the same time llike ChaosCTF, go ahead on that.
As for Chaos ONS, I like the ONS map mut and use it all the time. If any of the Chaos group talk to the maker and get the source and permission to modify it, I say use it. Information is power. Also a function that allows you to see enemy players would be useful. BUT, make sure there is a function that keeps enemy players from being visible on the minimap if they are too far away from the player or their teammates. That can make enemies too easy to avoid. However it being a melee only affair is not something I want to see. It should be up to the mapper and/or players.
Just my opinions here, so if you don't like them, oh well. I do want to see Chaos Assault and ONS, but finish up DOC first, m'kay.

umh yea but how to destroy or build a node with only youre sword! to destroy it u prob are supposed to be on the node then crouch to hit it while people might be defending it i think that this might yust be chaos might be wrong might be right or you cud add a link gun but make it so that ucant hurt players with it

Well,how about
When you step on a neutural node it appears and functions within 5 sec,but has no hp
when you step on a friendly node youre HP gets drained and addded to the node
When you step on a enemy node the node's HP gets drained and added to yourself
dunno about cores tho
