Actually, it does. I've got XP Home running with max at work. The only thing it cannot do is running multiple instances.
Maybe something's wrong with your installation or your drivers. Do you get any error messages?

Transalation: Thank you friend. But I dont think that I can order that DVD. $39.99 is a lot of money. $39.99 is Rs.1800. Unreal tournament 2004 itself was Rs.1300. Thanks anyway.

Hmmm...

I returned the installation CDs to the guy who lent them to me, but the software just wouldn't install. But that was 3Dsmax 5.

Yes, unfortunately the second DVD isn't sold as a stand-alone version.

BTW, you can order the VTMs of the UT2004 DVD on CDs at 3dbuzz.com if you donate CDs. It's all in their FAQ. That way you don't have to dl them.

Max 5 is the one I am using at work. I asked the tech guys at university about this today. 3ds max 2-6 all seem to running fine with XP Home (nobody ever tried max 1 with it and I couldn't find anyone using max 7 without XP Pro, but I doubt that there are any differences)...
