Well thats not good. Did you double check that no choas sound, texture, statice meshes or animations files are in your main dir? Also make shure you do not have the chaosut.u and chaosgames.u in the main system dir.

So far every time we saw this issue its been either a file that was not where its suppose to be...or a person not using the chaos menu to launch/connect to the game. Sorry again for your issues.

ya, to continue on what jb was saying.. another player I know accidentally put a different mod's folder's contents into the main UT2004 folders, and wrote over things like the Ut2k4gui menu. So whenever he would start his normal UT2004, he would get the mod's menu and have settings that didnt quite work out. Be sure to put the ChaosUT2 folder from the zip file into :\UT2004\ChaosUT2
and the files in the System folder from the zip file into :
\UT2004\System.

Whoa, wait. Just unzip everything into your C:\UT2004\ (or whatever) folder and everything should sort itself out.

Everythings in the right place... :? I checked pretty damn hard aswell and it still won't work with multiplayer.
However... I tried taking the Chaos ServerPackages out of Engine.GameEngine and while it doesn't work on multiplayer because of this, I can actually play multiplayer without it looking for ChaosEsounds3. But I would much rather have a working Chaos... :(

what command line are you using to start the server? batch file? or from the in game menu?

From the original post it sounds like you running a true chaos server... if that is the case, then jb's post about adding the chaos serverpackages to the UT2004.ini file were slightly incorrect, as its the ChaosUT2.ini file that controls the chaos server. Which could very well be the problem you are having.

If you are starting the server from the UT2004 vanilla game, then it makes sense that files will start downloading, as their paths have not been set in the ut2004.ini file. You're 2 options for running a chaosut2 server are:

Run a batch file (dedicated Server) containing this text:
ucc server Duel-Branwen.ut2?chaosGames.ChaosDuel?mutator=ChaosGames.ChaosUT -MOD=ChaosUT2 log=ChaosMut.log

or

after starting ut2004.exe, goto community and select chaos... (or use the -MOD=ChaosUT2 switch in the shortcut). Once the chaos mod main menu comes up, click "HOST GAME" and you can either run a listen server or dedicated server from there.

Both of these use the information and paths from the UT2004/ChaosUT2/System/ChaosUT2.ini file for the server, and should load all the proper paths and serverpackages you need.

And when you say you removed the Chaos Serverpackages, are you talkin about UT2004.ini or ChaosUT2.ini? I sure hope its not the UT2004.ini file you are using, because that will do nothing for you in chaos :)

Let us know if this fixed your problem. :)

I will try this, thanks. :)

BTW, I don't know if this is normal or not but I don't have ini files, I have configuration settings files. I don't think they're any different, but just let me know if they are. Peace. 8)

I had that once and had to re-install UT2k4 right on top of my current version. Maybe that? BTW this is an offical version of UT2k4 right? Again sorry for your issue.

its rare that the menu gives the invalid cd-key.. usually the cdkey isnt checked until you go online to a server that's registered with the master server browser. Happens to me every once in a while on my own server!! i just reboot my pc and it fixes it.
