Doom3 will be hitting the shelves all over the world next month as it has already gone gold.
Valve has yet to bring up some HL2 stuff that is more than some scripted levels with loads of bugs in. I'd say the game won't see the light of day in the next twelve months.
UE3 is an engine announced to be available somewhere in 2006. An engine is nothing you can mod, you need a completed game for that.
I think there will be a lot of Doom3 mods. From next week on it'll be the most sophisticated engine by far out there. And if it is as easy to understand as Q3A was, you'll find yourself covered in PPMs and mods within a few weeks.

Doom 3 is starting to look like its going to promise alot more then just a sensless shoot em up. I just downloaded and watched a half hour special and they gave major insite into the storyline which from what i can already tell is going to be amazing.
That and the gameplay looks great, things that caught my eyes like the corridor doors slamming shut and a womans voice faintly whispering " ....they took my baby ..... " then the screen goes red and you hear an infant crying in an eerie omniescent manner...then the doors open just as abruptly as they closed ....... that was one of the creepy moments preivewed, and it really helped get me even more psyched about the game.
