You are 100% right!

But the remaining question is: What happens to models that are not designed with CUT2 in mind? Will they just skip certain anims? Or will they not be available at all?

Sorry I never came back and replied. Pretty much RIGHT after I posted that message (A day later) I got a new job, and haven't really had time to visit places I used to. Anyway, the arrows in the bodies thing looks fookin sweet.
As for the comment about SOF2, I love so many things about that game, but the gameplay itself gets kinda boring. If it were more like RTCW, I would find it far more interesting.
I realized recently that there were teams working on the assult mod, so I'm sorry I called for it. Seems that it's going really slowly though, not nearly as quickly and well-done as the CD team does things (which is mainly why I suggested Chaotic Dreams look into it). I always enjoyed the old Chaos UT, and never got a chance to use the updated version (Lost my copy of UT, and haven't been able to find it...).
Maybe now that CUT2 has been released, I will get back into playing UT2k3 again, and leave RTCW behind.

My suggestion?

Was it my suggestion that got the work for the ripper-style gun started? If so, I feel very glad to have been a part of the brainstorming of this great mod. (insta)

Keep up the good work, Chaos!

Nah...

I liked explosive ammo almost as much as Assult back in UT, but when I start dropping below 30fps in a standard botmatch with a little napalm and poison thrown about, I fear the possibilty of accidentally setting off a roomfull of poison. That stuff makes my system lag like crazy (GeForce4 Ti 4200, 64mb, Athlon XP 1800+, 512mb DDR RAM..)

So, while it would be cool to have fire blasting everywhere (I'd like to commend the Chaos team for the coding on that, as well as Epic, the fire is awesome looking and doesn't cause TOO much lag.) I'd really just rather keep my FPS up.

That's odd, because I have similar system specs (actually I have a 1.4ghz athlon, not a 1.8ghz) and my framerate is always good (between 40 and 70, on some maps it's 100+), even with lots of napalm and poison going off...

It might have something to do with your system or driver settings.

In particular, check out your vid card settings. These days, games are run almost entirely off the video card. I have a friend who has a 1.8ghz athlon, with an old geforce2 card, and his framerate never goes above 15 when playing Aliens vs. Predator 2. Basically, if you've got a good video card (and it looks like you do), and it's configured for optimal performance, you should be able to run CUT2 at maximum detail settings and never go below 30 (or maybe 20 - in rare cases) fps.

If you're using an operating system like winXP, the extra window effects can eat up resources, so you might want to try turning them off as well.

Melee Weapon

 I jus had an idea for a new Melee weapon to replace the crappy shield gun thing. How about a bastard sword type from CUT imported but with alt fire where it burns red hot and fires sumthin like u see in those anima's, helsing or summit like that. Thought it would b quite interestin n original.

DragonXero,

thanks for the compliments on the mod! Very cool of you. I enjoy RTCW myself, but even though I bought it and wanted to get into playing it, I just always end up spending all my 'gaming' time on Chaos, and I never get to anything else. Maybe someday.

<img src="http://www.planetquake.com/chaotic/docs/buzz03.jpg" align="left">
As far as the CUTTER ("ripper-style gun") goes, the truth is that something similar was always one of the options on our 'workshop table', if you will. Since we had the Buzzsaw in Q2Chaos, we have always had another blade-shootin' weapon as a possibility.

But, when its23skidu started posting pics elsewhere on the net, of a new UT2003 version of the Ripper that he was working on, it was of course picked up by the Chaotic Dreams radar (always watching, always on), and we asked him to consider adding his weapon to our arsenal.

He accepted ( good call! (up) ) and with some help from the Chaos team (mainly Spa I believe, and I'm pretty sure Gasman did much of the code), his weaopn was given a slot, and is now racking up the sprees online. Sweet! its23skidu is still here, working with us, and I hope it ends up being permanent.

As that one old guy ( Paul Harvey ? ) used to say on the TV/radio, "And now you know the rest of the story".

And yeah, you are right, the poison nades might be the most FPS hurtin' item in our mod. Depending on our system of course, it can be noticable if you get a few going onscreen at once. I'm pretty sure the moment when poison gas goes from green gas to grey smoke is when you'll notice it most. But it's a very cool effect ( bias or not, it rocks).

Hope to see you online.
