How strong should the Assault Rifle replacement be?

It should be weak and you better find another weapon or die.

hard to say. We had a major set back. Two of our models are more or less AFK for the last month. So...with out a model....

What about the Skarrj claw weapon from the original Unreal?
That would be a good starting weapon because there is both a range
and melee attack.
All you would have to do is have one firing mode to fire the claws, and another firing mode to slice'n'dice.

You could even use it for Duel mode, although the range attack would have to be disabled.

well,the best melle wep would be a throwing dagger,axe,mace,proxy wich could be sharpened or maybe teeth,you could upgrade em so that they become sharper with razor teeth upgrade
