Have you a permission from LucasArts to use their intellectual property of a light saber?

You show me lucasart's copyright or trademark on a lightsabre. Yes, they might have invented the things. But if I do make such a mut. for CUT2, it's not going to be commerical or exploited in any way, so their legal case would be strenous.

That didn't stop Fox from shutting down a few
Aliens mods...

call it a beamsword and add in some things to distinguish it. Like part of the glowing blade being a bladestop right above the handle. And use new sounds for activation/deactivation

Hence the saying thas was way too popular back a few years ago "the mod was
FOXed" Some of them were a lot of fun. I still have one of the AVP Q2 mods somewhere on my HDDs. Too bad

No, they're not

.
I take it you didn't hear about the Marvel stuff a few months back? A skin site was shut down, and an official announcemnt thing was made that nobody is allowed to make any skins or models of Marvel characters, and any that are found will have legal action taken.
These were non-profit skins, in a game that is not competing against any Marvel games.
You'd probably be alright doing a lightsaber mute, and nothing would happen, but they aren't talking nonsense, and it does happen sometimes.

In fact, some were even better than the first AvP from Fox and therefore direct competitors. Plus LucasArts rather easily gets pissed about license stuff. There isn't many StarWars mods out there left except for the 'Troopers' mod and they do have permission from LucasArts as far as I know...

No, not the Fox Alien mods thing.. I was there then.
The light sabre isn't copyrighted or trademarked, nor are there any designs trademarked (AFAIK).
A mutator would not, and could not be done (Epic's EULA) for profit (in any sense of the word). Therefore no commerical basis.
I wouldn't launch a website with starwars stuff on it, or shots of the sabre, or try to promote this mutator in any way other than a single-line text description (that'd be posted on News sites with the download URL).
Some companies are more litigous than most (Microsoft, Marvel, Games Workshop, ...), but this ain't an issue.
Should I decide to release indepenantly such a mutator, and LucasFilm/Arrts/the man himself, etc, send me a cease & desist, i'd see what their argument was, and if valid, then cease & desist.
Else, I would sue them for trying to "own" lightsabres in a court (i.e. Microsoft and "*Soft" names of products), and we'd see how that goes (bear in mind I wouldn't have to fly state-side if I sued them, they'd have to pop over to Ol' Blighty).

I think he'd be better off just making his own energy based melee weapon.... you know. Just call it a beam saber and be done with it lol.
After reading the site I have a few questions about the melee system... ok will there be different attack/ animations for when you attack while ducking? , While jumping off a wall or while your in the air?
Also about the physics/custom animations thing... from what I think I understand the physics of the weapons and your character will judge what kind of attacks/animations you'll have?
So does that mean we (us players) will be able to model a custom weapon for the melee system and get it in game with out to many problems. As long as it follows certain physical properties or something

Like if I wanted to make a partisan type weapon or a scythe or short swords/ daggers I would be able to get that in?

I think that this should definately be the case If you guys make your mod compatible with custom melee weapons , it will greatly increase the amount of people using it out there , and in turn , bolster the amount of servers running CUT:E.
I'd definately like to see an aluminum baseball bat (great for smashing proxy home-runs) and a pair of nunchaku...
How bout a hunter adaptation mod for this where everyone starts out with melee weapons , and whoever gets the 1st kill becomes nabeshin , and is granted an afro , out of which they can pull all their favorite chaos weapons...

Hate to say it but i seriously doubt there will be custom models. The remark about the lightsaber was meant in jest. It would be nice but a) too hard to program if even possible and b) to easily abusable.
Also, if im not mistaken, any model we add will need to have no moving parts in and of itself (like the coord in a ninchaku).
Note that i cannot speak for the coders but i would be very surprised to see the option for custom weapons
