Proxy mines hate friendly fire

I never know if it's my team mates shooting the proxy mines, so I have to destory all of the mines I come across just in case. And it would be nice if the rail gun, or another proxy mine, could destroy the mines.

Hi Deaga, thanks for posting. Sorry for delay in response. Hopefully, everthing you've mentioned here will be taken care of.

We do have team colored proxies, but I admit, they are kinda small, and the color can be hard to see. But we also have an idea about a small team-colored glow or something to assist you.

In addition, if everything is working well, you should be able to tell by the actions of the proxies. If they don't start chasing you, it's safe. Sounds sarcastic, but it's not. If they are working well, it should be obvious when you get near if they have plans on hurting you. (although they are not always to be trusted, even on a good day (revil) )

And yes, the weapons will hurt them. (dead)

We had enemy proxies attacking each other in Chaos for UT, but I have to admit, I actually cannot answer that for CUT2. I'm usually on top of that stuff. Maybe one of the guys will back me up here and fill us in. If not, I'll get you an answer later today after I get into some playtesting.

A squad of the blue buggers chasing down an unfortunate red-shirted ensign.

I actually had some ideas about this. I was thinking that, if the proxies can recognize teams, they should have something they can say sometimes when they spot a player on thier team.

Could be something like "Don't shoot! I'm on your team!" or something like that. So if a player comes around a corner and sees some proxies they can let him know they're on his team.

I also thought that proxies could make good scouts and guards. If they spot an enemy, instead of chasing him, sometimes one of them might turn around and jump toward the nearest friendly player saying something like "Incoming!" or "Enemy spotted!"

Imagine: Proxies that can coordinate with a team. That would make them really smart. Of course, they should still be unpredictable and very easy to piss off. If you step on one, even if its on your team, it should blow up in your face, and shooting them will make them quite mad.

If they are team colored, then perhaps proxies that have gone rogue would lose thier coloring and go back to the regular yellow proxy color.

Sounds good Shadowstar.

And Deaga, I went ahead and confirmed that the rail gun does the trick.

And I'm pretty sure I saw enemy proxies target each other as well, but I was testing with bots at the time, will know for sure when I get catch another beta tester on there.

The problem is that I never want to risk getting close to a proxy mine, even though there's a chance it could be on my team, And if I don't shoot the little buggers then they can be a risk to my team, myself included. So it would be nice if I can't kill my own proxy mines as well as my teammates proxy mines depending upon whether or not friendly fire is on. Hope that's not too much to ask.

That actually makes alot of sense. The whole idea behind a friendly fire option is to make it so that you can't hurt your own team with any weapon. Proxies should be included in that. Proxies should only be able to damage your team mates if friendly fire damage is enabled. This includes them turning neutral when shot.

One of the main reasons for disabling friendly fire damage is to eliminate team killing. If this doesn't apply to proxies, then team killers can load up thier own base with proxies and become a massive nuisance.

Proxies should be able to hurt the player that launches them and any enemies of that player's team, but not his teammates.

Proxies should also ignore the person that launches them for the most part, but there should be a small random chance that the proxy will go after its owner. If the player that launches a proxy shoots that proxy, then it should become hostile to its owner. And, of course, stepping on your own proxy will set them off.

I think this is a good way to do it. This way, team proxies won't hurt anyone except for the player that launched them (and the enemy team of course), so you still have to be careful when launching them, but they can't be used as a team-killing tactic.

Perhaps if a player shoots one of his team members' proxies, the proxy just gets really mad (but doesn't take any damage if friendly fire damage is turned off), and starts cursing angrily, but can't hurt the player due to the game rules... That would be funny.

All weapons can hurt proxies not just the rail guns....proxy sniping has become my favorite past time 8)

Proxy Invasion... that would be cool... maybe make them a little larger so its easier to hit them.

Good lord -- Proxy Invasion would be true chaos. Imagine if one of those little guys spawned right behind you!

You could even have a special Ironman mode where the proxies are twice as large and produce redeemer and Ion explosions when they hit someone.

Of course, they shouldn't blow up like that if you shoot them -- just a regular explosion.

Or there could be two bases(your's and their's) and you have to plant acouple of bombs(found at two or three bomb 'factories'[bases for the bombs]) at their base. There should be a factory for both bases. This could also be a good form of cft where proxies gaurd the factories. The factories should also be team controlled, meaning that the factory your team controls has friendly proxy mines, but you can't use the bombs at your factory. And only one bomb can be carried by a team at a time.
