some random suggestions

First of all "Hey". I'm Chamalkan, I'm a Chaos-nut since the original UT version and I map (I'd map for UT2k3 but firstly I suck and secondly UnrealED doesn't like my comp.)

anyways, since I've got no other usefull thing I'll go to my suggestion:

-adrenaline moves:
INVINCIBILITY
I was playing quake 3 team arena and there's this invincibility item that's good. When you use it you're surounded by a blue energy sphere which nothing can penetrate except for the proximity mines.
Now picture this situation:
A player get's full adrenaline and activates his energy sphere, he kills and kills and kills and nobody can do anything about. Now all of the sudden he hears the laughter of proxies, they are waiting around him. His energy sphere begins to fade and half a second after it's gone he eats proxy.
(also picture a sphere with lasers from 4 or 5 flametripwirethingy constantly burning on it)

I don't mind the thought of invincibility but I really like the thought of having a weakness :)

How hard would it be to implement blocking of everything except direct hits by explosive weapons?

Bullets, arrows, shock rifle/plasma gun wouldn't affect you, but explosive arrows, rockets, grenades and proxies would damage you if they get a direct hit. And of course super weapons like the vortex would still kill you.

BTW, has anyone played around with the RPG mutator for UT2k3? I like this a lot and it'd be nice if I could use it in Chaos

Some of the weapons (im thinking of poison in particular now) will bypass shields :)

Also all players get a short shot of invincibility upon respawning, either until a timer runs out or until they fire their first shot. aka Respawn Protection

heh, forgot to mention the big weaknes of this thing: you can't walk. you're trapped inside the sphere. sure, you can fire all your weapons and hit people but if they hide and wait you're screwed.
(maybe take out an impact hamer and play pool with the sphere  )

Hmmmmm interesting idea. you would be invulnerable, yet you could be kicked about like a soccer ball (football for my European friends ;) )with the Kick that is already in Chaos. I like it. Ofcourse if some one shoots you it shoud send you bouncing on along too.

Oh that would be funny... If it protected you from the vortex, but still pulled you in, you'd be flying around helplessly, and then when the vortex ended, you'd go flying off at ridiculous velocity, bouncing insanely off walls and such... And you really wouldn't be able to shoot much when being whipped around by a vortex since it pulls in projectiles. You'd probably end up shooting yourself, which should be possible. The bubble should protect you from everything but yourself. That would also add a unique quality to it when we add in the melee weapons which we may allow to reflect certain kinds of shots, then you could reflect a shot back at someone using the bubble and still kill them.

That sounds like fun, you'd be like a bubble boy... And it should act like a rubber ball and even roll around. Sure, you're basically invincible, but someone could just as easily knock you off a cliff, or at least get you out of thier face where you can't shoot at them...

And, float in water or sink? Hmm... If you sink, would it protect you from drowning? I vote no. Engaging the invulnerability bubble in the water would be a very bad idea...

Imagine what it would be like in low gravity, or while using the grav belt? You could use the grav belt as a way to indirectly control your movement when getting pushed around at least, that would take some skill to do.

Grapple should be unusable when in bubble mode, though, cuz it would be a way for someone to cheat the immobility aspect.

On maps with lots of places to fall, using the invulnerability bubble would be very tricky because you could end up making yourself much easier to kill instead...

Damage volumes should still be able to damage you though, otherwise people might end up getting into the wrong places in certain maps. Some cool effects could be created for when you get killed while using the invincibility bubble...

I like this idea alot!

ofcourse not every assault rifle shot should get you bouncing around the map IMO, that would be a huge disadvantage, maybe just the superweapons or a fully charged shield gun. A rocket or a flak could get you moving a few inches or something

Just to kinda show you how hard it is to come up with new ideas....

a variation of this one has been talked about months ago in our dev forums. I think it was related to the Utility Gun at the time, maybe having a 'bubble' function, or a seperate Bubble Gun.

Spa however put an end to the discussion at the time, due to some models/graphics issues. I think it was the part about making the player be in the bubble.

Not trying to make the point of "Ha! We thought of it 1st." I simply want to show once again, that it's hard. It's hard to be original and unique and all that. Very hard.

Coming up with original ideas isn't something you can try to do, it just happens. The more you force it, the less likely it will happen. The best thing to do is just have fun and the ideas will come by themselves.

Or you can think really hard, go insane, and then come up with tons of original ideas because no one else would dare let themselves think that way. 8O :D

Yeah, but so many people do it that way these days it's hardly original anymore. I mean, that pretty much explains the entire Chaotic Dreams team...

Insanity is like a pre-requisite to join I believe...

You know, I've been thinking.. Scary.. Anyway, The whole bubble thing would fit perfectly into a bombing run setting.

Picture this, you're the first to the center of the map and that means when you pick up the ball, you become the ball. The bubble surrounds you, and you become invincible but unable to move.
Your teammates must now push/blast you along to the enemy goal, which would probably be located in the floor somewhere. Now, if the enemy team should over power yours and steal the ball/your teammate, they're going for your goal.
But since it's your teammate inside and not theirs, when they score with him it'll take your points but not add any to their score. If they had used their own teammate as the ball, they'd have gained points and your team wouldn't have lost any.

I'm a fan of bombing run as you can tell.
