Tesla coil?

I got a possible weapon idea. How about a weapon that shoots a stream of lightning that semi-homes in on targets. The secondary fire could have reduced range, and less damage, but could arc to any nearby targets as well... Being a tesla coil weapon, it can be made to look really "spiffy".
I dunno... I thought I'd post it here so I dont regret forgetting it.

Maybe it could make a nice Link Gun replacement, then again, it is up to the team.

I'd go for that. I always loved the lightning gun in Quake. All I'd ask is that you can discharge it underwater...
It'd be fun to make the particle effects for that too. Since I've been getting into emitters lately, that's something I'd really enjoy.

IMO, there's a lightning gun already in the game.
So..., if we want to play with lightning, we should pull their model into the shop and see what we can break.

I like the idea, I think it might be well suited to a Ammo type for Oh say the Link Gun, I know we have other link gun ammos planned too.

Sort of like a combination Lightning/Ice/Flame thrower, for all your killing needs? Sweet...
Lightning could be fired into volumes of water, damaging everyone in it (but sucking up vast quantities of ammo). Probably the most damaging of the three. Robots take extra damage (you're going down, Havoc...). Or not.
Ice could freeze water solid (allowing you to walk on it or trap unfortunates underneath

) and turn players into blocks of ice on death, allowing for extremely gory coup de grace action. Maybe you could create ice patches on the ground as well to trip players up?
Fire could, umm... set people on fire? Actually, there are enough things that do that already. An acid spray, maybe, that eats through armour like it's nothing (and doesn't do flesh a lot of good either...) Also the option to spray a puddle of acid on the ground might be good.

Oh no my friend. the Fire-Ice combo should go right where it was last time.
Im not real big on the lightning name. Dont know why. what about somthing like ElectroLink ammo?
Wow some one has it out for Havoc.

That is true, as the Link Gun is a mix of a Plasma Gun and Lightning Gun. I'm not sure about adding even more fire, as there are already two weapons that can set people on fire and I don't like having two guns that do almost exactly the same thing, but thats just me.

I would love a gun that causes people to become electrocuted for an amount of time based on how long they were exposed, and have electrical arcs jumping over them and dropping sparks every so often. They'd take random amounts of damage at random intervals until the electricity wore off, similar to the lasting damage of fire, but the twist is, if you jump into the water, it will stop you from taking further damage, but you take a bunch of damage all at once, and sparks will randomly spawn through the volume, and cause damage to everyone else in the water.
Then of course firing the gun in the water would produce a lovely discharge just like in Quake... It would be different from the UT2 Lightning gun since it would produce a continuous beam, but the beam should jump around randomly and chaotically, and maybe curve and bounce unpredictably. It should be attracted to any materials with a metal or flesh surfacetype, and players of course. There should be a radius effect, but the radius only does very light damage. If the beam "locked on" to something, like a player or metal, it would stick there and no matter where you turned, the beam would curve to the target it was hitting. You'd have to stop firing to be able to shoot at something else. For a game called "Chaos", we don't really have any weapons that have very random or chaotic effects. Our weapons are cool, but I think we need one that's almost pure chance and chaos, just for the hell of it.
Lightning/Electricity is very chaotic. Some might say it is the essence of chaos. I think it fits into CUT2 nicely. Plus the effects would be fun to make.
Ammo should deplete fast, and damage should be inflicted quickly (perhaps one per every tenth of a second of direct exposure to the beam, plus an amount between 1 and 10 at random intervals while electrified.)

Emitters are very fun to mess with!
I was thinking about both chaos and the link gun when I came up with that. I really like your revision of my idea, shadowstar... I didnt know that those kinds of events could be scripted! As for the lightning gun, that paints protons, and then lets electrons loose. This thing would just discharge electrons at anything conductive.

methinks it would work better on robots than humans....
