Team Duel Melee?

Would it be possible to add a "Team Duel Melee" mode to ChaosUT2?


My friend and I are having a blast playing it, but we hate fighting each other and think it would be cool to have it be us against two or more other bots. Is this possible? It would make an awesome mini-patch... :D

Welcome to the forums and I think they have already been discussing Team melee! I personally would love to see that also!

So will there eventually be animations for attacking/defending multiple opponents?

And perhaps a way to use the grapling hook to grapple enemies and maybe swing their corpses around after they're dead? Or is that asking too much? :D

Well gives us a few more days to see what is what with this version. We probably will release a fix for the bugs right away. Then follow up with another update to tweak some things (duel gameplay, aniamtions, add in the missing weapons) ect. So some where along the line we can talk about it and see where it needs to go.

I really want a huge team melee duel. *Thinks*
Gametype: Team duel
Type: Mapper's choice. All melee weapons plus crossbow.
Map: Medievil bases.
Players: 40/60
20 players on each side. Crossbowers in the back, launching carefully and hoping arrows dont land on teammates that are fighting the enemy.
In the meantime, a cloaked assassin kills the king of the blue team. Since the king gives orders, the blue team cannot do anything. The red team has won.

Shweet.

I think that KoTH could very well be the ideal "team melee/duel" gametype. KoTH already supports melee, just none of the maps have melee weaponbases. But there's nothing that's stopping one of you from making a KoTH map that uses melee weapons...

KoTH maps aren't usually all that large, and can have team-based spawns, and even bases from which to attack. A map could even be designed to have all of the melee weapons available in each team's spawn room, then you can just pick the one you want, sorta like Duel. And the best part is, that functionality is already in the game! So all it would take is for someone to actually build such a map, and you're all set!

Cool huh?

I personally think it'd be really neat to have a Duel CTF game. Maps would ideally be castles and such, but other stuff works too. I think that would be lots of fun (I'd need a knight in armor player model...). Oh, and a suggestion from Sigma would be that the flag itself could be used as a melee weapon. And if you could get the corpses of those you killed to sit on the end of the flag and twitch and shake that would be cool... :D but unlikely. But I think a melee CTF would be cool... just would have to get rid of the grappling hook and kick most likely...

I agree, though you would have to slow down the flag carrier by 75% at least so that it doesn't become a chasing match. And about grappling, if they could make it so that grappling causes you to drop the flag, then it would be ok.

Flag drop on grapple is a server side setting :D

We have been talking about a Melee/Duel CTF type of thing for a while now... don't worry :D

I have played melee CTF before, and it was cool, for awhile. Something different to do sometimes. In ChaosUT, we had SwordArena game type and mutator, SwordMelee mutator, and so forth. I remember scanning NC and places like that for tiny castle maps and stuff. Hehe, I had fun back then. :)

But I am not drawn towards Duel CTF. I'm just one who doesn't feel like it's a game of CTF until you have at least 6 players. 2 on 2 I can see if that's all you got, and if you pick the right maps, but 1 on 1 just doesnt' seem like it fits CTF. IMO anyway.

And I just can't see playing Chaos w/o a grapple. As Furry mentioned, we have a flag-drop-on-grapple option already, and from feedback I've been hearing over past weeks/months, I'd even be willing to make that the default setting. As much as I like grappling with the flag, I want human opponents even more. :wink:

But..., if we do that, then I would argue that we do not need to do anything else, like slowing down the flag carrier. The grapple is an excellent tool for moving about the maps, and if he's not able to use it, you should have a Fair and Balanced chance to catch him (unlike other new-fangled high-tech devices which have become so popular in today's tournaments). And I think that's true whether it's a melee match or not.

I realize you didn't exactly say this - but I think the important issue many folks "have wrong", IMO..., is that just because somebody has gotten your flag, does NOT mean you Have to get a shot at him, no matter where you were in the map at the time.

Some folks seem to think that if they can't catch the guy every time to get a crack at him, it's "unfair". Well, I'm not buying into that. Same as soccer, or basketball, football, or whatever. You need to be in position to make the play.

About the idea of using the flag as a weapon, well I just don't get it. I mean, either I've got some big gun, or I've got a big arsed blade of some sort, why would I want to pull some stick with a flag on it to hit you with? Not trying to be sarcastic here, but seriously? Doesn't it seem kinda silly given your other choices of weapons? Personally, I would like to see ChaosCTF strap the flag on the player's back, where it belongs, and leave it there.

But I'm all for matches of CTF using swords and axes and castles and flaming crossbows and grapples and catapults and flying cows...

well it should be possible now I think... with switchchaosmelee,SWA ver6c, chaosut2, muts and.. well of course the ctf gametype.
