Map selection good/bad?

Alongside with the duelling (as I don't play normal anymore - chaosUT2 rulz) I have a lot of fun playing with map settings weqpons.
However when the selection gives you a melee weapon the bots I play against never use them, making them just normal bots with chaosUT weapons.
even more so when they have cool guns like the needlers or the crossbow they like to whore it like some maniacal ant protecting their queen. Perhaps it is because it is grouped under the shieldgun icon and therefore treated like it.
Really it depends what you like overall but I wish that the bots were a bit more open to their inventory.

BOT AI is always a sticky point. We will try to make them better!

I voted other. :D

The Topic title and the vote options don't match.

Link gun just needs a little ChaoticHelp(tm). We've got a bunch of ideas done, but welcome more.

Me too.

1. I like the LinkGun and wouldn't prefer another weapon replacing it.
2. The RL does not just look different, due to the weapons option key you can play with it in an absolutely different way.

Furry is right, maybe the LG needs something similar...

You'd probably have to tweak the AI rating of each melee weapon to convince the bots to try using them.
That's what madnad did for v2 since the bots liked to whore the LG into oblivion.

As for the posted poll, I made a kind of "idea pool"thread

In normal weapons CUT2, I always grab a link gun when I find them, because, as much as I think the Link is a bit weak compared to the other normal weapons, it still feels way more powerful than most Chaos weapons. Cool as they seem, the crossbow and SR simply aren't very effective, in my opinion. So I think the Link needs to be brought to the level of the other chaos weapons.

Health Keg = Bad imo. Especially when there is no way to keep enemies away from it, like in all the maps that have it now. I think if it stays in it should spawn only once per round at most.

I don't think the link should be replaced per say...

I definately don't like nearly as much as the Pulse Rilfe from UT. There's something completly different about the two but i can't seem to put my finger on it.

AFAI Can Tell:
1) Primary isn't nearly as fast
2) Alternate doesn't dish out the damage as much as the UT version
3) Alternate is shorter or isn't as accurate

But yeah, something doesn't feel right about this one, same as the mini. I liked both in UT but something doesn't feel right about either of them in this. That and the Lightning Gun (can't get used to the tighter aim/headshot region and slight firing delay) but thats a different story.

Anyways,

I'm assuming that if you guys change the link you'll keep the alternate in some form since this gun is sort of a must-have for Onslaught when 2004 comes out. Seeing as it heals nodes and vehicles as mentioned in the previews.

uh...

What's with all this about link gun replacements? I thought we decided ages ago to replace it with the MUG (Multi-Utility Gun). The only reason we don't have it now is the same reason we don't have the CPPs or turrets: the model isn't done. Why are we discussing this again?

The MUG doesn't replace or change the funciton of the Linkgun, like the Chaos RL does for the RL, it's a completely different weapon. The idea of a "Chaos Enhanced Linkgun" has been around for a long time and still has not been decided on, so there's no harm in continuing to discuss it.

And Iceboy has a valid point. When UT2004 comes out, if we have a Link replacement by then, we should try to adapt it to fill in the functions of the new Link. Or, we could take a different route and place those functions elsewhere. For instance, Proxy repair crews, who jump around looking for broken things to fix, with little wrenches sticking out the tops of thier helmets. When they find something that's broken, they attach themselves to it, and start "rotating" to make thier little wrenches work... And they double as defensive mines, just like the regular proxies. Hehe, just off the top of my head.
