Chaotic Dreams

i got a problem with the 2 release of Chaos for Q2

i tryied to start Quake2 (v3.05) with :

D:\Quake2\quake2.exe +set game chaos +set deathmatch 1 +set ctf 0
on a shortcut under WinXP but i got this error : Error during initialization

i tried under DOS mode (winxp) and i got this error : could'nt load pics/colormap.pcx


what should i do ? i research about this directory and the file but nothing ... i have no idea ...

please help !

I would suggest upgrading your quake to v3.20. I don't know if it would fix that specific error or not, but I'm sure it would fix later ones.

i can play this fabulous Quake2 Chaos now

but i have still a problem ... where is the Offhand grapple ?

i can't see it under the Quake 2 chaos "option => customize control"

anyone got idea ?

so i have read the DOC inside the Chaos directory , it's seem that the grapple is an option we have to take the Grapple Item before using it ...

but i remember that the first time i play with Chaos mod , the grapple was a Default item ...

maybe we can change under the console mode right ?

please could you help me ? i don't know command lines under Q2 (either Q3 too)

Look in your settings.cfg file in the chaos directory. There should be a setting for the grapple there. I am sort of guessing in the dark because I don't have it installed.

This is because the gameserver was set up to give each player a Grappling Hook upon entering the game.
This is what you want to do so that when you play, you will always have the hook and not have to rely on finding one in the map.

You will have to edit the file called "settings.cfg" that is found in your
X:\Quake2\chaos directory.
The file can be opened with windows Notepad.exe or most text editors.
Within the file, look for the section called :
// Startup items/ammo:
--it is about 150 lines down the file

in this section add the following line

set start_grapple 1

...and that's it. C'est tout!

i have never updated my q2 is that all i have to do?
btw can i play just the bots or does their have to be some human element?

Yes. Update your Quake2 to version 3.20 and you should be fine.

Chaos has it's own Havoc bot built into it. They can be pretty good to play but you must turn off the Q2 option "weapons stay" before you start a game with them or they just run around in circles where the weapons spawn

...oh and try to keep the rail gun away from them. They're too good with it

any ideas on why the following is happening?
every time i play chaos it screws up my pc when i close it how do i fix that?
and even sometimes during the middle of a match it screws up and my pc freezes!!!!!!!!i love chaos btw i spent saturday fraggin my 20 havoc bots.
