Question for the Techy of you...

Is it possible for a Game to fry a video card?
Not asking if its likely, just if it is possible.

My card died during when starting to intialize a game of Halo.
A Radeon 9000, which already has major issues with the game, Mainly Random BSODs caused by the game, These are a confirmed issue that the Majority of Radeon 9000 owners experiance with the game.
I have never overclocked the card, and I know there wasn't a power surge, Nothing else in the computer is having any problems.
I doubt the card was faulting because I have been using it for just under a year and a half..

So is it possible Halo caused it to die?

Thanks.

Looks like I won't be playing chaos for a while

I don't believe it could directly kill it, but if the card gets too hot running Halo it could fry itself.

could the many many crashes caused by Halo have compounded into it frying?

are you planning on filing a Suit on Bungie if it did?

not bungie.
Maybe small claims on Gearbox, probably not though. I think it far more important that anyone else who has this card is warned.

I can't afford a new one, and I am pretty convinced their software fried it.
But I need to know for sure if it was possible.

i think it is

for example Starwars:Knights of the old republic also fried a bounch of radeons,i dunno why but radeons fry more often(theres a similiarity between halo and KoToR,theyre both resource hogs)

Techicnally no. Its not possible for the game itself to fry the card. But what the game does is push the card so it could show a defect sooner than later. However not really the games fault as the defect is usally present (maybe dormant). Running a 3d benckmark (3dmark or another game in benchmark mode) whould have also shown this type of error. Other factors could be poor ciculation in the case, maybe the fan on these cards dies (bad fan) and that can cause the same results, ect.

Sorry for your lossed. From my past expernices I have not really had a problem with Radeons but stuff happens. Hope you can get a replacement card ASAP.
