DOC improvement

Hi folks and thank you for doing such a fine job!

I was very happy to see DOC on your plan since it reminds me of my old favorit: HEXEN II Siege.
Well, that game is now more than 5-6 years old, but the idea was great.
see: http://www.hexenworld.com/siege/

You could have 1 or 2 (DOM style) Castles with destroyable walls, gates and many different ways to enter (and to defend!).
In the original mod you could use catapults to hurl yourself over the castle walls, or swimm through the sewer (full with nasty animals) into the courtyard, but you could also dig a real tunnel. The goal was to get to the enemy's throne chamber and get the crown.

The defenders could use stationary bolt throwers to get some extra power.
CUT2's Melee system and the crossbow is perfect for this atmosphere!!!

Please Please Pleeeeaaaase!
Take a look at the website and try to incorporate these ideas in your project!

Speaking of Invasion... Has anyone thought about a Helms Deep (LotR TT) style map? With movable siege towers? :-)))

Many thanks in advance!

Endre

Ps.: Sorry for my english...

Endre01,

thanks for the kind words and feedback. You will be happy to know that a few of our members have played Siege and have even told us to go read the same web page that you linked too :)

However as with anything we want to take it slow at first. Get the basics added. Then work on improvement. Duel was a fine example. It started out to be simple melee only. Then grew into what it is today. While thats not a bad thing it almost got out of our controll as we started to add lots of features with out ensure all of the bugs were dead. But now we have fixed it to the point its much better. Thus if we can learn from what we did in Duel it should have all of the basics, "bug free" as best we can. Then based off feedback we can grow DOC into something that every one will enjoy. Its pretty fun to play already :)

Thank you for the quick reply!

If you think "siege" will be worth to be part of a future release, I am more than happy. I can wait ;-)

The new features you are planing for the next PR will tie me down to the computer for a long time, anyway :->

Keep on the good job!

Endre

Actually we have never had as much help as we do now. We have up to 6 coders and with SK help the models wont be far behind. In fact there has been so much happening lately, that little ol'e me (lead coder) has not been able to code much of anything as the others have done it already :)

We really did not start till after xmas and we have already gotten a lot more done then I would have thought we could have. These guys are amazing!

I have to say that the rate of progress and development these past few weeks is almost greater than that of the entire months that we spent developing Duel. Not only is DoC moving along at a rapid pace, but maps are popping out of the team daily, and work has also started on our new CTF gametype. There is alot happening, indeed.

Hello Endre01!

I played HexenWorld as well, it was my 1st online gaming actually (played as Muertos). Though I was late to the party, didn't know the stuff existed till it was nearly dead.

But yeah, I've mentioned several times how much I'd like to see Siege redone. I too have mentioned the catapults and tunnels, etc. And you are right, we are in fact in a position to bring something very similar, aren't we?

Though to be honest, I'd do it w/o the classes. Just not a fan of class-based play.

But anyway, it's early on, and hard to say, but I don't think what we're gonna make will be exactly like Siege. Well, esp with all humans defending. But I think fans of Siege may dig it anyway. Because it's probably gonnna bring the same kind of feel.

Welcome!
