Offical "Teh Demo" thoughts thread :)

So for those of you that had a chance to play "Teh Demo" what did you think?

Here is my 2 cents:

1) I liked the HUD changes. I never did like the UT2k3 HUD.
2) Weapons do seem fairly balanced but I agree with another poster here that the sniper seemed a touch week. The models of them seem a bit better now IMHO.
3) Assault looks to be done better. You know have an into "movie" that shows you what to do vrs actually reading the objectives. The Convoy map is ok for bots, but I would imagine its more for with Humans. The other changes to AS are pretty good.
5) Love the dualies AR, but I have a love for all dualies weapons so meh :)
6) Onslaught is a lot of fun. Good game type.
7) Vehicles. Ok for me this was bitter sweet. I have had the chance to use vehicles way back since Shadow Warrior back in 1997. So with 6 years I have seen a lot of good and bad ideas come and go. Currently BF1942/DC have the ones that are just an all out blast to play. I really did enjoy the ones in Halo as well. However for the flying one, it just sucks. Sorry but the Halo Banshee controls and handles sooo much better. I know there was big thing about how Epic "copied" some of the ideas halo. And there was the funny thread on Atari's forums that showed them side by side. But the rest seem ok. Not a bad mix.
8) Did not get a chance to try CTF/BR so maybe tonight.

In all with the short time I had to play "Teh Demo" it was a lot of fun. More so then UT2k3 was. Will it be enough to get more humans on-line? I don't know. The biggest issue I see is all of the other top caliber games out this year: Stalker, Doom3, HL2, SS2, Far Cry, Joint Operations, BF:Vietnam. All of these may end up pulling bodies away.

Also its too early to lay out any plans for Chaos and UT2k4. We need to play the real game as well. One thing that now can happen is our Hoover board idea that we have waited so long for....

Agreed totally with all of the above. I liked the old HUD ok, but the new one blows the old right out of the water. I was hoping that you could get double of other weapons, obviously not the sniper or chaingun... but something. The banshee handles much better and the controls are much simpler. However I LOVED driving the scorpion and "lassowing" people with those plasma links!! The icing on the cake was the fact that you could extend those little claws and do a "melee drive-by". CTF and BR seemed to be very similar to their previuos counterparts, my only complaint there was that they lacked any vehicles... maybe in the full version?? If not I know there will be a slew of conversions and new maps with vehicles put into them. Also something about a vehicle arena??

I think it rocks. It's probably the most fun I've had since UT1. The revised Assault mode is just brilliant. Last night I was at a loss of words for how awesome it is. Onslaught is just as good. The vehicles are great and easy to control. With the flying dealy you really have to learn some tricky maneuvers but can soon conquer anything that gets in the way.

I can't think of anything I don't like. Epic did a fantastic job.

I like it, though the raptor does have loose controls i think it fits that vehicle type. The HUD was good, but i think the taste i got of the new sniper in Convoy (attackers can use it.. wtf) is that its a bit overpowered. When i got one when defending i just lined it up at a door and got four one hit kills.

ONS was a blast... need to get better at it though since right now in a big game (15 bots and me) i can easily get creamed.

i played teh demo all day long(6 hours without ANY breaks 8O )

1:The hud really is great, the old one blows compared to this
2:all the weps seem very balance, just a bit o' tweakin with the sniper
3:ONS is great, the vehicles are great,i like that the raptor is hard to control, every n00b wont just jump in and spam my base with rockets
4:This demo is great,i dunno what to expect from the full game now, becouse this is waay better than i thought it would be
5:i think the smilie at the flak cannons secondary is removed:(,im not sure tho
6:online its a blast,i got creamed in convoy, made a pile of wrecks from air-air attacks
7:too bad the transformer wasnt included:(
8:in the nvidia logo theres a skaarj with a RL,maybe theres a way to pull him into the selectable models

Yea I hear you about the raptor. But, all of the major flying games have your "plane" go up and down via mouse look. Why this one has the up/down controlls is behind me. Thats the first thing I am gonna change for chaos

I'm gonna have to try that out, but I like having independent up and down controls. Though I also like to steer with mouselook. If it flies anything like the Mosquito from Planetside, I will own with it.

the skaarj and a couple other models are in but not selectable right now.. and i know i saw a redeemer in the CTF map hitting an enemy base (though the demo was supposed to be without superweapons as far as i know).

Skaarj model im 99% certain will be in the full version.

If they removed the Smiley from the flak alt. ... Oh boy are heads gonna roll ...

That is by far the neatest feature...

I'm guessing its not in the demo due to the fact that these are supposed to be low detail textures to keep teh demo size down.

I doubt that they would remove an old UT staple, especially now when they are trying to go back to the original UT roots.

AFAIK, it's great that they 180'd from the WWE feel. The game has that "we're serious, but not overly serious.. We're Unreal" feel back. I think Chaos will fit greatly in UT2004.

Im a dial-up modem user....... the new netcode is downright awesome... I almost didnt notice that there was any sort of delay in the heat of the game.
