Chaos Relic Ideas... If They Come Back

I've been wondering for awhile now what ever happened to the Chaos Relics? I'm sure that they weren't added due to the fact that there are now adrenaline combos but I'm sure you guys could come up with some twisted ideas for more relic effects... Also I would like to know why they never made it to CUT2:E. Its just something thats been bothering me for a few months now, and thanks in advance for any answers...

For a long time we have had plans to implement them at some point, but they keep getting put on the back burner due to the fact that we have so much else to do first.

They are comming. They will prolly get here around the same time that we get closer to where we want to be for CHaos CTF.

Thanx 4 writing back so quickly even though it took me awhile 2 back...
Are the old relics coming back? or will some of them be replaced with some more chaotic ablities? *Don't remember what the relics did... its been too long... but I do remember enjoying them quite alot

Im sure we will put a twist on them but nothing is written in stone yet. The "origional" ChaosDM had them for Quake2. They were called Tech Powerups back then, and since most of the old UT Relics effects were duplicated by the adrenil system we will most likely come up with some new ones. but at this point its all speculation.

Naw I think the normal adrenaline combos should say in but have the relics in to add to the chaos so you can do adrenaline + relic combos, ie, Invisible + Wall walking *idea for a relic - being able to move on walls like Spider-Man* then you could throw in the grabbling hook to swing down from the roof and slice someone's head of with the Bastard Sword... now that would be a nice 'lil combo in a Duel, MUAHAHAHA!

We considered adding Chaos combos, but relics are more classic and have been a part of chaos from the beginning. It only makes sense to bring them back in that classic form.

For me, personally, Relics are so much greater than combos. Combos are silly and consolish <- biased opinion right there. Relics are great; not so much because of what they are, but because of the nostalgic value.
My particular favourite being the Relic of Vengeance from UT; boom

I never much cared for relics just because they way they randomly appear. I would much rather have them spawn at predefined locations. Right not is just luck that the one you want spawns in front of you...I would rather base it of some skill of the player then a radom event.

totally agree. the quake3teamarena way for relics is much more fair than the UT bonuspack way.... that's what I said a while back on #chaoticdreams.... design the Chaos CTF maps to have the relics in each base. Non Chaos maps could have the random style or non at all: admin's choice. hell, how it works on Chaos CTF maps could be admin's choice 2 to make everybody happy
but don't throw away adrenaline away too fast. I agree that the implementation could have been better: we're not on a console, just let us hit one key instead of a combo. and the pickup is wrong too in my idea. In my head it works as a reward for doing good stuff. Like frag the carrier: 4 adrenaline, defend the carrier: 5 adrenaline. And when you earn adrrenaline it should say on the hud why (in U2XMP it did that with points and I know I went: "ooh, that earns me much points, I'll do that more"). It would be like an encouragement

Its a known part about how living beings think,how are dogs trained?by getting them to do something and rewarding them for doing it,thus making them see it as a good thing..,
humans also think somewhat in the way,that would be a good thing and make n00bs know what to do,discourage non-teamplayers and encourage teamplay
but wouldnt it be a bit script heavy to have it check for kills near flag carrier,flag, and other things

doesn't UT2k4 already checks these things to add to the points on the scoreboard? I know it's not all frags

This kinda gave me an idea... relics should be earned not picked up like double damage or invisability *Old UT* if you work well with your team you could earn a relic and by pressing a button *needed to be bind* you could use it on demand and the longer you hold out on using your relic and the more you help out the team the better the relic becomes or the longer you could use it... This would be a nice feature in Chaos CTF and DOC

or you could buy better ones from teamplay points,fraggin carriers,cappin flags
