mainly I am talking about assault and onslaught. I saw some chaos team members say it will be not likely melee weapons will be usable in non-chaos gametypes.is it true?

I'm hoping they create chaos versions of onslaught and assault which have melee enabled. I've been really looking forward to using melee weapons in both modes, in addition to the regular chaos & UT2k4 weapons. If they don't, then I will be VERY dissapointed!

Is it possible to turn Melee into its own mutator?

No, I forgot why but it has to be it's own gametype.

If I remember correctly, it replaces the bot class so and you can only replace that class if it is a gametype and not in a mutator.

It adds on to the bot, controller, and pawn classes, among others. This causes severe compatibility issues when in mutator form, which is why we keep it in a gametype

To expand on what Jedi said. The idea of a mut is to work with all gametypes and other muts. Since this type of Mut would have to change pawn, controllers and bots it stands a great chance to break other gametypes and other muts. And we want to play nice with the other kids
So I agree that a Melee muts is very cool and probably deserves to be its own thing, we don't want make something that breaks other things....

Just read the changelog...new melee animations sounds awesome. Wanna see tha katana!
A question on the axe animation though...one thing that bothered me about the axe in Chaos for 2K3 was that it wasn't super realistic. Realistically with a long-handled axe, your grip on the axe handle would be relatively spaced out, one hand closer to the bottom and one near the axehead. The way it's held in 2K3 chaos doesn't look as if it'd work in combat, realistically. Does the animations for the axe look a little more realistic now?

To answer your question, yes and no. I have attempted to use a realistic movements at i could and still keep the game play intact. There are many movements for the long axe that have both hands on the axe but some movements just were not possable with both hands on the axe so he lets go. All in all there are approximatly 150 new animations, and i have duplicated the animations on the female models do get rid of the stretching that you see in the 2k3 version, then i duplicated the Idle animations for the alien models so that they no longer do the wierd foot thing. So we are looking at somewhere in the ball park of 300+ new animations.
I realize that that was more info then you asked for, but i thought i would show the scope of what we are talking about.

Well, the team could always make chaos versions of all the gametypes that would contain melee weapons, so lockers would give you various melee weapons. But yeah, the CUT team has to find some twisted humor in the idea of jumping on top of a goliath and tearing it open like a can of beans with a broadsword. Seriously, only in CUT would you get such pleasurable strategies. I long to see this potential realized

This question seems to be asked a lot, shouldn't somebody just sticky it?

ROFL @ the can of beans remark.
Although I enjoy Duel, I would like to see a DM version with everyone involved at the same time, and not just to break ties I mean. That's all I want

We will be having a sort of Melee only DM with in Duel. It is a last man standing option for Duel. where as many as can fit in the maps by player spawn points fight to the last, with the last advancing. ( there can be only one)

Well, you will be able to do this in a round about sort of way. Melee weapons do damage to vehicles. They dont peel back the top like a can of beans but you can destroy a tank with the War Hammer

( Ps. the explosion usualy damages you too)
