How can I make melee weapons

I hope it’s not a stupid question... :? All my friends and I love the new Duel Melee mode with the hand combat weapons. Is there a way I can make my own? I know how to model in MAYA and I'm learning some animation. But is it possible just to copy over a new model and use another weapons animations? Maybe even the coding? My friends and I wanted to make this type of weapons-

1.Freddy Kruger’s Glove
2.Machete
3.A Medal Yard Stick
4.Broken Beer Bottle
5.Tomahawk
6.Pocket Knife
7.2 small samurai swords
8.Kitchen Knife
9.2 #2 Pencils

Thats all... For now...
It can make it easier for me if you can send the PSK or PSA files of the weapons... if you have them. Or I could model them myself, and send you the model to use for another update.

Oh.. and off topic- I made a awesome Dojo type map for Duel Melee. Ill try to upload some pictures later.

Thanks... if you can help get me started on this.

Just fyi:

Anything shorter than the daggers is going to be extremely hard to hit your opponent with ingame due to the way collision works.

Ah, want to make a 'slasher' film-like game mode?

Exactly. As you might have noticed, all of our weapons (even the daggers) are pretty long. This is due to the fast movements that are possible in UT2004. With shorter weapons you'll have a very hard time to hit anything at all, maybe even a wall. ;)

The weapons LoQ and I did however do not have animations. They are all meshes with a certain structure that is used for calculating if you hit someone or miss. Due to this the system is very accurate, WYSIWYG so to say. The visuals are not just a representation of you hitting or missing in code. So all the short weapons you mentioned are likely to give you a rather unsatisfying gameplay.

The animations were done on the playermodels and there are quite a lot of them for each weapon. AFAIK LoQ had a pretty hard time getting them done because of the huge amount of time they took.

I am but a modeler and not a coder, so I don't know if it is possible at all for you to add your own weapons to our mod (would that be modding a mod? :?)...

for the Hundredth time , I'd like to say that we are not making the buster sword ( I don't think that's it , but it's close enough) or any other swords or from movies , games , literature , comics , and any other copyrighted media!

However if someone else makes them seperate to the mod and we implement some sort of user Melee weapon system , then that would probably be fine.

the only weapons I'd like to see are some polearms, like a staff and a spear. That would round out the list nicely.

The whole point of melee is to use archaic weapons in a futuristic setting. That's why you will never see a lightsaber in Duel.

No you'll never see a lightsaber in duel because doing it would violate Lucasarts Copyright laws.

And also because if we were going to have a lightsaber in duel.. i would own it :-)

I have an idea for melee.

Instead of the primary-attack, secondary-block thing, how about making it so that Primary fire does horizontal attacks and Secondary fire makes vertical attacks? Holding down the primary fire button would make you block horizontal attacks, and holding down secondary would make you block vertical attacks. Blocking wouldn't be a 1 or 2 second animation, but a sort of stance that stays until you release the primary or secondary button and stop blocking.

I hope that didn't sound confusing.

how about something like a metal rod? make it something like an add-on in case you just want to annoy the hell out of your opponent. make it just for CCTF. you could keep whacking him, making him drop his weapons and armor and such. alt could be like a knock-out hit. makes him fall on the ground like you tranquilized him. lasts about 1.5 seconds then he gets up again. useful when "hanging" out in the enemy base and one enemy comes along. you could even use something like a metal bat! basically a stealing and stealth melee weapon. however you can't hit him for items if he is knocked out. another idea for a weapon, not melee, is to have like a chain-and-ball launcher. primary shoots it out, knocking back whatever it hits, and alt fire could retract it. ammo's would be the chain-and-ball, which can always retract itself BUT can be broken. another is to have something like an iron attached to it. imagine getting hit in the face with a red hot iron. its no longer for clothes anymore... another ammo option could be like a bola. launches out an attached bola and makes that person stick to that spot. HOWEVER he can burn the rope and/or shoot you. sorry, just wanted to mention that.
