effective webslinging

lo peeps, well for a bit now i've been messing about with the ability swing from building to building (using the grappling hook from CUT) on the map
matrix rebooted, grant it it is a ut2003 map and the teleporters don't work more than once, but its real good for "webslinging" around the map using the grappeling hook (the idea is that when you make contact to a surface you toggle the hook to stop retracting you in).
now getting to my point, you can go real far real fast if there is a big angle between the point of impact to the vertical and the point to which the preson is at. now getting to the bad point of this, it really starts to loose its effective speed when you fire at a point and you are in free fall before it makes contact and the angle to the vertical is getting smaller and smaller, so you don't get the really good amount of speed that would make this so damn cool.
so my question, is there a way the speed of the grappling hook can be increased so it makes contact alot sooner? (to get that extra weeee)

Here's my idea for grapple improvements:
There should be a separate key to descend the cable instead of just letting it release you slowly. It kinda ruins raptor grappling, as you have to constantly press the grapple up key to make sure you don't fall off and die. If your hook is idle, it should not release cable at all.
Plus, the grapple's range and speed is kinda low. I would like it to move faster and be able to move farther.
So here it is:
Grapple hook toggle: Shoots out the hook to grab on to stuff. Hold it down to make it pull you when it makes contact, and tap if you don't want to get pulled immediately.
Grapple Up: I think this should be a button to increase grappling speed, not just to pull yourself up. This would make you stop falling if you're descending the cable
Descend: This would slow down your grapple speed if you're moving up and make you descend if you're not moving.
I would also like to be able to pull enemies/items towards me with this thing.
And would it be possible to make the grapple cable a solid object?

it might be but inorder fo it to work on items you need angel items

well i'm just wondering if there is a line in the ini file or something that can be simply changed to increase the speed of the grappling hook

ATM all of the grapple properties are not exposed in a fashion that an INI file could use. We could do it at some point done the road but it would take some work...

IMO, that would be the same as offering options that speed up bullets or arrows or grenades. The speed of the grapple is not by accident, and it directly affects the rest of the game. Ideally, it's like an ecosystem.

Change speed of this one item, and rest are out of the balance we are sorta working on every day (an exaggeration perhaps, but making a point). I would not recommend such an option.
Some would argue the options in Q2 Chaos to alter damage given per weapon, etc, was a good idea. Logic being that the more options the better, no matter what. I disagree. From what I saw, it is my view that it merely fractured the Chaos community, and made it harder to get folks to play one mod together.

Maybe you should have a limited mutator that you can set properties of the grapple, but only to 25% from the original amount (a scale of 75% to 125%). That way people who like the grapple the way it is can just use filters to avoid the grapple config mutator.
