Medieval siege!

hi all,


The melee system is awesome, and the other day i had a rake of fun doing a Team KOTH match using only melee and Xbow weapons - this gave me an idea;

How about a Medieval siege type game - using only melee and Xbow type weapons. This wouldnt really be a typical chaotic gametype, but since the CUT system is spot on, then it should be used. Add in a few extra melee weapons and like a manual bow and arrow and stuff , and base it on a kinda assault inspired gameplay. Possibly a shield and short sword if it was possible, cos duel kinda lacks and protection yet and a ut style shield is too futuristic.

It would be like a cross between KOTH and assualt. One team would have to attack a reasonable sized objective such as a keep or outpost tower or supply train (carts and stuff) and hold it for a time limit similar to KOTH. then the teams would swap, in a round fashion.Or, the objective could swap every round, so that after each pair of rounds you would be attacking different parts of the castle/level.

I think melee weapons and Xbows would make this really frantic, and with cowering from arrows and stuff would be really intense (similar to the bit in MOH beach assault level).

anyone else think this would be cool? it would be a fairly small task if it were only to be new levels, but i spose weapons and scripting would take ages..

i can but dream...

There is an invasion/assault melee gametype in the works, not sure if it will make the next release though.

That sounds like a kickass idea.

Maybe have futuristic and medieval setups, so you can hit the whole spectrum of fun, from stabbing and slashing a guy to pieces, to blowing him to hell 8) .

Well, we have a medieval style Invasion gametype in the works. Beyond that, there are projects of a grander scale (like DoC) but we haven't had the time to focus on them due to other things. If Horde Hunters makes it into our upcoming release, we hope it will provide people with a nice melee-style invasion gametype themed after classic hack n' slash like Rune, Diablo, or even some of our favorite movies like Army of Darkness (though that may be a little more along the lines of DoC)...

sounds cool. i really like the melee system so any gametype featuring it should be awesome. :D

So HH is the first step...next is DoC and adding a xbow to both DoC...and maybe HH as well?

Be sure to nerf the crossbow for HH and DoC for balance. The sharpshooter monsters already do too much damage, in my opinion.
