Chaotic Dreams

Hey all,

OK ....... Slingblade[TnT] and I are trying really hard to load up chaos maps on the servers. We tried downloading the maps off a site first to make it quicker ............. umm no that didn't work. After we unpacked the zip files and tried to join a server it still took over an hour for download for each map. I let mine run through the night to download the maps from 'The Wrong Place' server which is Chaos Onslaught. Woke up this morning to the chaos games mismatch error. Now I have been playing reg UT Onslaught and have those maps installed ............ is that why I am getting a chaos games mismatch error? Or is it because I have the wrong version of chaos installed ???

My questions are this ................. is there an easier friggin way to get the maps other than downloading for nights at a time .............. special map pack maybe ?

Second question .............. is my chaos installed with the right version. I downloaded and installed the CUT2PR35_Full_UMOD. The link said if I haven't installed chaos before than this is the version I need. Also I took the current version of UT2004 ........ could that be my problem ?? it was v3339 not 3323 like the post on top of the forum. Since that post was made in Sept and the version came out after I assumed I needed the most current .......... however maybe chaos needs the earlier version ? and what is the ECE pack ?

Third and most important question ........... what is that error msg I am getting?

It has taken a total of 6 hours so far to try to get into a chaos server lol. I am a NEWB all over again.

ok ....... I have found the ECE file, however it wasn't on the UT2004 page in the section of needed files. I found it in the miscellaneous news section. Also some of the links to download are dead URL links. I found a good one from GamersHell.

Should I reinstall chaos ? Also do I need to remove the current version of UT patch and use the earlier version or keep the most up to date one ? ie/ keep v.3339 or uninstall and reinstall with v.3323 ?

My game isn't crashing or anything ......... it just won't let me join any chaos servers. Does playing normal UT through the Chaos application affect any of the map downloads ??? Going in the wrong folder ?? The map them selves should be the same shouldn't they?

sorry for all the trouble. The current version is PR3.6 If you connected to a server that was running a newer version that could be the cause of the mis-match error.


1) Which maps are you trying to get and where did you place them when you downloaded them?

2) The version of UT2k4 is fine. You do need the ECE bonus pack if you have our PR3.51 or greater. As you found out the ECE is a bonus pack that adds a few more maps, players to UT2k4. Chaos uses some stuff from ECE so its now a requirement moving forward.

3) Note sure on the error message. See if you can grab a screen shot or post the log file here (chaosut2.log found in your ut2004\chaosut2\system folder)

Again I think if you check to make sure those servers are running the same one you might find that your one version behind. Sorry for all the trouble. We do have an IRC chat room...swing over there to get help as well!

Lets start

the usual setup

Install UT2004(check)
Install the newest patch(youve got htat)
Install the ECE BP(Just got that i guess)

as you ahve 3.5 full currently
upgrade to 3.51(dunno,maybe you can up right to 3.6)
Upgrade to 3.6(100mb patch,whoopers)

The 3.6 patch has all of the 3.51 stuff so if your on 3.5 you can just to 3.6 and be all set.

I will have a look when I get home from work. I have never installed chaos before even when I played Q2. Always had someone come over to the house and do it for me. I have to go to work now but as soon as I figure it out I will let Sling know how to do it as well.

I am very confused now

I have read all the topics and I think I have all the files. That ECE is actually a dos application ?? I have no idea what to do with it.

I got the patch 3.6 for chaos. I tried to unistall chaos and it won't let me. I tried installing that ECE and my printer started going crazy and it was activating some DOS command. The little black DOS window came up.

I'm sorry that I am being a pain ............. i am just not that technically minded with all these patches.

and how does that ECE file actually work ?? is is supposed to be a DOS command ? or did I get a bad file ?

Now it won't even let me load the game lol. So frustrated and I know you all are trying to help and I do appreciate it ALOT ! thanks. Just keep in mind that I don't normally patch things myself and its not the explainations because you have all been great. It's just more my inexperience with patching.

DOS?

The ECE file should work just like the UT2004 install. Double-click, and it unzips itself. When it's done with that, you just install it onto your UT2004 directory (I think...).

Install the UT Patch, ECE bonus pack, Chaos PR 3.5, then patch to 3.6, in that order.

It seems to be running after alot of work. The ECE file I got from the official UnrealTournament site is a bad file. It messed up my machine and I had to start all over again. Also did something wierd with my printer settings. I was right and that it was a messed up DOS file cause I had someone else download it and test it out.

I reinstalled the whole UT over again. I got a good copy of the ECE from www.beyondunreal.com which worked good(it was also specific to the 3339 patch). Patched it with the 3339 and I then installed the Chaos 3.6 umod1 After reading the instructions on the beyond unreal site it told me that i had to install the ECE BEFORE the 3339 patch because there were certain codes that had to be written back over the ECE file with the patch.

I read through the postings and I recognized each and every error that a lot of the people were having. I think someone should take a look at that file to see if others are also having problems with it. It might help if you have a direct link to the Unreal Tournament good files on the chaos download site so that others won't get the same bad links. I was getting the same error that Deathstorm a few posts down from me was getting so I wonder if he also got that bad file I got.

It seems to. I will test it out in the morning. I have a headache from all the messing around that I have done on it. I can load chaos and join a game so I will take that as a victory. I only installed 3.6 chaos because it said if i didn't install chaos before that 3.6 was all that I needed right ?
