Grappling Mut Possible?

Hey there,
Well, I'm kinda new here; so maybe someone already asked this (but I didnt see it on the first page anyways); and if that's the case, my sincere apologies.
Anyways, what I want is to install simply the grappling hook feature on my server. I really like ChaosUT, love it actually, ever since the old ut99 chaos. Nonetheless, as an admin and clan leader, I cannot go changing my clan server to a chaos server (we're a zark clan); however, if there were a simple grappling hook mut, than I could at least have it as an option on my server. So, do yall have a stripped down chaos mod? Like just the grappling hook? I cannot ask all my many guests to dl and install Chaos, but a small mut is np; know what I mean?
So, is there a grappling hook mut, that can function seperately (and without) the rest of ChaosUT? If so, where is it? I hope so, cause I'm dying to swing around like tarzan again; matrix moves just seems like a kinda cheep movement mod next to grappling hooks...
Thank you for you time Chaos & co.

Never,
its probably not going to happen. In our UT99 version we had 4/5 sepereate mini-muts. We ran into some issues (minor they were) trying to keep them all in syc with the main one. So when UT2k3/4 came out we made the decesion to go with just one main mut but build in the flexibility to allow it to appear like some of those mini-muts. For example you could run it with out the swaping out of weapons/vehciles/ect so you would just get the grapple. Again we know that this is not idea for those fans that just wanted to use one part of the mod (say relics, or in your case the grapple). But again we made that effort/choice not to have mini-muts this time around. I know its not the answer you want, but hope you can understand. Also it never hurst to ask so dont feel bad. Glad you did enjoy the newer version!!!
However maybe in the next engine change we can have a "chaos light" where its just the weapons/items/features. This shold be a much smaller package. And then a "chaos full" that has the all of the "chaos light" stuff and adds gametypes, melee, player models, maps, ect? Again something we can look into for the next major engine change as your not the first (nor will you be the last) to ask for something like this....

We have a lot of things to do just to add the polish/tweaks that should have been on the last few PRs. Once we get them done, the bugs fixed and even the few new things added, we have already spent months on this. Dont want to make you wait any longer than is needed. Spliting up chaos into a light version would require lots and lots of work on our end. Its not hard task from a techincal stand point, just thats is a very big task to do that. Plus we as a team have never really talked about it as I was just thinking out load. And we dont know what issues we will hit until we try it. And as you know with issues come delays

jb,
Thank you for your answer. It's understandable; and I did like the mod. Now, as a quick other question, if I did install chaos on my server, would players still be able to connect and play from their ut2k4?
Thanks,
Never.

I'm pretty sure this has been discussed and that the general census was no. Chaos will not be split up into Multiple mini-muts. no spray mut , no relic mut , no grapple mut , no talk icon Mut , no weapons only mut , no melee mut.

Dont mean to call you out, but i remember the team talking about it quite a bit and the answer was simply no. We did not want to split chaos into peices and parts.

They would still need to have chaos installed unfortunately, even if you disabled the weapon swapping etc. If you really wanted to you could get the full package and remove the maps (which should cut down on the size a bit), then host it for your clan, but if you do so dont publically host the file.

yes in theory it should work out just fine. Not sure if we every did a deep test on it however...

Not sure what Jb is talking about, but if you had chaos installed on your server and proper serverpackages installed, your clients would need Chaos as well. If you had it installed, but the server packages not installed and the mutator not running, then they shouldn't need the Chaos client.

I'm just posting here (first time, no less) to get a clarification. I used to use ChaosUT2:Evolution for Unreal Tournament 2003 (as well as in the original), and when I picked up 2004 I naturally wanted to upgrade it with the latest Chaos mod. I was somewhat confused, however, seeing that a number of options that used to be readily available on the 2K3 in-game menu were nowhere to be found. They included the options to turn off features of the mod (like weapons or grappling - or that annoying 'flag drop on grapple' option - or whatever). I assume that was an intentional design choice, but it does diffuse the answer to his first question. While I still use the mod each and every game I play, I do yearn for the days when I had those options a click away. Was it in the way, did you not want it anymore, or did it just seem like something that wasn't popular enough to port? I'm just curious.

Those options are there. You have to "activate" the mod from the Community section when you open UT2004. Once it is activated, it opens up again with a cool Chaos menu background. You'll find those options on the "Chaos" tab of the Settings page.
Or, you could create a copy of your UT2004 desktop shortcut and put
-mod="ChaosUT2" at the end of the "Target" box.

I must be masterfully inept, because that just gives me the same options that I get from the configuration menu on the mutator screen. This is what it shows me, whether following your method or the mutator configuration screen (I took pics of both screens but my pic of the options screen came out messed up).
The options don't seem to appear in the .ini file either, not that I'm any sort of expert on the subject. It also isn't covered in the Chaos UT2k4 Manual.

disabling weapons is only thru the ini
flag drop on grapple is in gametype rules(when you host a game,in the rules section, where you can select score limit, etc)
