Digital: Part One, Defiance
Jason walked into another alley, this time picking up a pile of broken wood and metal. He pushed it all to the side, and started climbing down a ladder. A second later he reached up and grabbed his back-pack, then pushed the wood and metal over the hole, covering the ladder.
Jason looked down then dropped the back-pack; it hit the floor with a metal ‘clang’ then slid down the ladder.
Ayi popped up in his HUD again as Jason walked over to a door in the tunnel, picking up the back-pack again.
“You should really be more careful with that, its not indestructible”
“I know its limits” said Jason, sliding a piece of metal between the door-frame. “So don’t complain about its durability”
He pulled the metal in-between the wall and the door knob, Jason pushed the door, and it slid open.
“Hmm, breaking into your own house, how nice.”
He walked in a closed the door; the room was small, only big enough to have an air bed on the floor, a mini-fridge, and chair and a closet.
“If you can even call it a house, more like a glorified closet, b’sides, do you really want me sleeping in the streets?”
“Well you can always sleep on the roof”
He opened the closet and put his trench-coat in, Jason looked in the far back corner, there were a pile of guns and ammo along with a couple of grenades and a rocket launcher.
He chuckled a little, thinking about the guns in the closet and laid back on the wall, closed his eyes.
“Why do you even have those, the war is over, you’re a good enough fighter to defend your self against pretty much anyone…”
Jason opened his eyes and paused for a moment.
“Dunno, instinct I guess, after the missions, when the squad broke up, I knew it wouldn’t be the last that we would meet. You were there, you could tell the hostility between us. Geez, Jackson d*mn near killed himself tryin’ to keep us in line”
Jason thought for a minute, and then stood up.
“Why would the Black Shadows try to gain more territory, they already have most of the city, something must be goin’ on with the leader.”
“What do you mean?”
Jason went to the closet and grabbed two magnums, holstered them behind his trench coat, then went outside.
“The only reason the Shadows would try to bring in more people is if they felt threatened or afraid of something, and trust me, not many people can bring fear to the Shadows”
Jason caught some movement out of the side of his eye. There was another balcony to the right of him; someone had just gone through that door. Jason stood on the rail and jumped to the other balcony.
Bad move. Just as Jason landed, the balcony gave weigh and fell to the street below. He had grabbed the ledge of were the door was, but the other man was desperately slamming the door on his fingers. He went inside an appeared out of another balcony, Jason pulled himself up and shook away the pain in his bloody fingers. Jason followed the man up a ladder to the first roof. The man backed up against the wall and looked at Jason, then let out a small laugh.
“So it took you that long to realize who I was, eh Malcolm?”
The man walked forward to Jason.
“Been awhile Lieutenant “
“We’re not at Legacy any more, I’m no Lieutenant”
He caught a glimpse of a black twin bar tattoo on there necks. It was the Black Shadows symbol. Jason caught the silhouette of another figure in the alley of Malcolms tower, and another on the peak of some rubble. Yet another figure jumped down from a window in Malcolms tower, landed in the middle of the group, catching on of the men by the throat, and jumping onto the same escape ladder that he was on, only on a lower level. Jason blinked his eyes a couple times and his vision returned to normal. Jason looked down below though the grates, it was obvious, those were the Vampires.
“Guess its time to see what these guys are made of”
Jason jumped over the edge and caught the Vamp by the neck, grabbing on to the railing and swinging him into the floor below. Jason grabbed the Shadow and tossed him into the building, out of harms way. Jason kicked out the bars supporting the ladder. He hung on to the grate above him as the rest of the ladder fell onto the Vamp. Jason let go and landed on the fallen grates and motioned to the remaining Shadows to get out. They exchanges glances and ran over to the other side of the street, but just enough that they could see what was going to happen. Jason started walking over to where he saw the last Vamp, but turned around when he saw the grates rising. The crushed Vamp wasn’t dead, although the face was cut badly, and his arm was bent at a disturbing angle. The other two hidden Vamps walked out, along with two more from within the rubble of the destroyed building. The Vamps closed in from the front and behind. Jason kicked the Vamp behind him back to the building, while drawing his Magnums and fired at the closest Vamp’s knee and leg. Jason couldn’t help but smile at the satisfying ‘crack’ as a bullet shattered the bone. He hadn’t had this much fun since his mission with Jackson in Paris. Jason dashed forward, spinning to face the Vamp behind him, while kicking the injured Vamp in the side of his head. He spun around again tripping the next Vamp in line as he shot several rounds at the air-born Vamp that he just kicked. Jason stepped over the tripped Vamp, shooting two rounds into its head. The last vamp crouched down, defensively, baring its fangs. Jason tosses his guns into the air just as the Vamp lunged forward, Jason caught the Vamps shirt and threw him into a wall were an injured Vamp shoved the thrown Vamp out of the way. The injured Vamp jumped forward, as Jason rammed it with his shoulder back into the wall. Jason kicked its head and held it pressed against the wall. Jason shifted his weight, and crushed its skull easily. The second Vamp stood up, Jason spun around, catching the Magnums in his hands and catching the Vamp between his heel and the wall, breaking several ribs. Jason finished the Vamp with a couple shots to the head. Once again the Vamp over by the escape ladder stood up, only to have the front of its head blown out. Jason smirked as the Vamp fell, and a Black Shadow walked out from the building holding a smoking Beretta, and kicked the Vampire aside.
Jason got this paranoid feeling again, like he was being watched, he looked around the streets they were walking on, but there was no one else around. All the windows were empty or broken but he caught a glance of a man jumping across the towers. It was Malcolm. Apparently he had seen what happened; he always had a habit of wanting to know what happening, especially around his Tower. Malcolm had his sniper rifle in hand, as usual. He didn’t like what Jason was about to do, he didn’t trust the Shadows either. Might as well give him some bargaining power, never can have too many guns pointed at your enemy, the trouble is finding your allies and your enemies. Sometimes the ally fighting beside you is more dangerous than the enemy you’re facing down. Jason was an ally, no doubt about that. If something were to break out, Malcolm’s loyalty would be with Jason.
*this underlined sentence is one of my favorite quotes*
