Vehicle hijacking?

How difficult would it be to make it possible to grab onto vehicles and throw out the driver ala Halo 2 and GTA? That would be totally cool, maybe you could fit something in there too like if you're holding your melee weapon you can stab them in the neck before you toss them out? kinda make the melee weapons more useful if you're good at sneaking up on people... and it would look incredibly awesome as well to grab onto the frame of a passing scorpion, stab the driver, throw him out of the vehicle, and swing into the driver's seat. Especially with a slow motion mod like mokeymatrixmoves on...

a sad fact is that IF it was made with animations,it would be impossible as UT doesnt and cant have enter/exit vehicle animations(would you run INTO the tank when pressing enter?..not to mention it would slow down vehicle combat)
IF it was made "press enter-throw out the other player-enter" then it would be pritty lame,imagine you driving around with the flag only to get dropped out,do the same to the opponent and enter a loop
IF it required you to stand still next to a vehicel or something else it would be impossible for the player
so there you have it,i do not support that idea(but i am not a member of chaoticdreams soo you can just ignore me)

I support the idea. but not all good ideas work in the setting of UT2004.
but food for thought. You could still probably have some sort of Magneto translocator. Primary fire Clings you to the vehicle, Secondary translocates the enemy out of it and translocates yuou into his place. Of course ,the translocation would have to take a bit of time to charge for balance.

Grapple attaches to the driver and rips them out...problem solved

i had the same idea "hangin on for dear life" walk up to an enemy Scorp or HB, and lug acouple flak shots in the window take the vehicle as your own...

I'd like to be able to grab on to a vehicle without having to rely on the grapple. The grapple is pretty unreliable for me, as the the line is released gradually. I'd like it more if you could control the maximum length of the rope, so you could control your distance from whatever you're latched on to.

Actually, could always do something like a Use key mashing where if you hit Use enough times, you "pick the lock" on the vehicle and jack it from the driver

i dont think it would be too hard to create a macro that presses the key 29 times in about 0.1 second
also it would end in a loop,enter 50 times,enter 50 times from the jacked out opponent,etc
soo...even worse

Disruptor them and then shoot the driver. That's what I do. Most vehicles you can just shoot the driver out of it. With tanks you can't, but then you shouldn't be able to either. Link or mug is really good for spraying a driver.

From an animation stand point this is a bit of a problem. Halo can do it since there's a static number of player models. Since UT is a modable PC game with custom models, you need a lot more animations (since you can do custom vehicles and custom player models). In addition, it would not fit UTs pacing at all.
I like the grapple snag idea though

to be honest, i just jump onto scorps and hellbenders anyway...i let them run straight for me and then time a jump on to the bonnet with a flak cannon. 2 well placed hits is usually enough to flame it at least. this is also 100x faster than halo2's annoying bash thing.
Bah, stick with the vehicles as is, they are amazos enough. i just wish there were some truly huge siege engines.....titanic machines of war etc....i like the feeling of the player being dwarfed in game, stops the "im god" thing happining.

Well, the mapping engine could support it. I think its just the lack of immense vehicles that's stopping people from making maps to support it. Unfortunately, that leaves us with the problem that if we were to implement such a thing, it probably wouldn't reasonably fit into an existing ONS map.

I am actually working on a map and hell, i am putting in a Levi for every player. also cicadas for the others who prefer flight. maybe I can mix these two into a puzzle map...
I just had a sick idea for an option for chaos. you do NOT want to hear it, trust me.
