In case anyone doesn't know, for the last week and a half almost, Mumbai, India's main port city has been having rains like never before. Flood waters have risen to the second floor of buildings, the death toll has passed 1000 people and all of the cities reservoirs are overflowing. Almost everything in the city has come to a stand still.
Some additional facts:
1) The State Government of Maharashtra has declared that no foriegn aid will be required to handle this disaster.
2)Venice has a ban on cars and other land vehicles, but Mumbai improvises: our land vehicles can go in water!
3)The rain that has fallen in the last four days is more than that which falls in the state anually.
4)More to come, watch this space...
Talk about chaotic...

It's happening in Mumbai again...
Indra must have a urinary sphincter problem or something...
Rains are just falling, trains have stopped, paranoia fills the air once more...
Anyways, I have no school this Saturday, thanks to the rains. Damn it! I still had to wake up at 5 because of the damn school...

And yet, americans pay no attention to it, focusing on the smaller disaster in new orleans instead!
You know, I'll bet 1 dead american soldier would top a news story like this in america.

lolz... though they probably did not really place their citizens before others, what with the carnage, looting and unrest...

The problem is that it is a relatively small disaster. When a country like India is subject to a disaster, EG: gets bombed by terrorists, the funda is that it is a third world country and stuff like this happens regularly. But when London got hit by bombs, for which Mumbai served as a testing ground one year ago, all hell broke loose.

I think what Pep was trying to say is that we are kind of busy with our own stuff atm. And while its not a big disater compared to other events in the entire world, it is the biggest one to hit the US in the past 100 years.

I have a pretty simple Question. Why was Mumbai used as testing sites for the bombs that hit London.
And NewOrleans is not exactly a slight flood.

AFAIK: Basically many Islamic terrorist groups operating in/from Pakistan take advantage of the Indo-Pak conflict to, well, practice. There were about 6 bombings in Mumbai last year (I was in Bangalore at that time and I'm not an expert on this subject so I could be very much mistaken) and India sent appeals to the U.S., E.U. and U.N. for political support. Many said that these bombings were an extension of the Kargil clashes (Again, terrorist activities in Northern India. At least they were called Terrorist activities because the President of Pakistan, pervez Musharaf, denied openly attacking India). Some, however, theorised that these were to be practice runs for far 'superior' targets. Well, apparently the conspiracy theorists were correct...
BTW: Again, I'm not an expert on this topic: this is what came in the news. I do not wish to in any way demean or insult Pakistan, Islam, the U.S., the U.N., the E.U., etc.
But I do intent to insult Rappers and Yodellers
