Chaotic Dreams

Well, it seems to be the thing to do lately, so we're going to jump on the bandwagon. This thread asks for your opinion about naming the next version of the Chaos mod. We'd be grateful if you took a moment to read and comment.

Regardless of what we pick, we'll probably still be referred to as 'ChaosUT3' and 'CUT3', and of course that's fine, it's just easy. But we're still interested in picking a cool official name.

In Unreal so far, we've had 'ChaosUT', 'ChaosUT2', and 'ChaosUT2:Evolution'. So 'ChaosUT3' seems an obvious choice. There are some however, who wanted to remove the "UT" part from the name (maybe make up some t-shirts and caps). Some wanted to have a sub-title of sorts (like the 'Evolution' in our last version), others did not. So in the interest of exploring these ideas, we've run 'round in circles and got nowhere.

The leading candidate at the moment, to mark our 10th year, is

Chaos III: 10th Anniversary Edition

And more examples include:

Chaos III
CUT^3
Chaos3:Entropy
CHAOS 3: Insanity
CHAOS 3: Disaster
CHAOS 3: Blood Rush
CHAOS 3: Ablation
CHAOS 3: ProxyMine Fiesta

But then of course the '3' really only refers to the title of the game UT3. It's actually the 5th version of Chaos, and the 4th in UT. So other suggestions included:

Chaos IV
Chaos V
Chaos V - 10th Anniversary Edition
Chaos V - Decade
Chaos V - Decade Edition
Chaos X: Decade of Mayhem
Chaos T.A.E. (Tenth Anniversary Edition)
Chaos T.A.R. (10th anniversary release)
Chaos: Dream#5

As you can see, we're all over the map. If you have thoughts on this you'd like to share, we'd love to hear them.

Nooooooo.....don't jump on the bandwagon. Just kidding, but seriously don't stray from the original conventions.

So many businesses and organizations try to do the "newfangled thing", but they loose the historic perspective on which they founded themselves.

We should never loose our history.

I do like the Chaos III: 10th Anniversary Edition.

It matches the Unreal title and marks your tenth year.....best choice in my humble opinion.

Chaos: The Fifth Cycle

I would suggest dropping the numbering, or at least using #5 (numbering by game could cause confusion if Chaos changes platform for some reason). It will help in future versions, especially if there is a UT3.5 or whatever. That said, I like the ones mentioned above:

Chaos: Awakening
Chaos: Rebirth
Chaos: Re-Awakening

Chaos: Insanity
Chaos: Unleashed

Or possibly to continue the "evolved theme:"

Chaos: Sentience

Dammit! If only Unnatural Selection wasn't taken already....
Especially since it gives the somewhat silly/disturbing potential acronym of C.U.T.U.S.

IMO, ChaosUT should stay as the main mod name, as it always has been, for UT at least (IIRC)

maybe drop the numbers, maybe not... here are some name proposals :

ChaosUT3 :
- bone vs steel (reference to the bastard sword and vehicular combat)
- CARNAGE (repeat)
- the third war (Skaarj, necris, proxies/HH... ?)
- restriction level 5 unlocked (so you have all numbers)

Chaotic Dreams seems to be the name of the boards and the website, so why not go with that?

As for subtitles:

Raining Blood
Scourge of Sanity
Mystery Meat
Reprocessed
This Won't End Well
I Dreamed I Died (fits with Chaotic DREAMS)
De Machina Est Deo (The Machine is God)
Your Mom Says Hi (also, unh unh unh oh baby harder unh unh unh)

If the last release was "evolution", why not make this one "Chaos: Evolved"?

...then make the proxies fully sentient...
