nothing happens with umod/ut4mod

Hey all,

I found my ChaosUT files on a dvd today and thought I'd install them.

I'm already running UT2K4 v. 3369, and I think I'm running the ECE patch, however, it's been so long ago that I install UT2k4, I could be mistaken. Anyone know how I can check it? [EDIT: I DO have it installed.]

Anyway, I have the full zip of Chaos v. 3.6. I installed the zip, ran Chaos UT just for kicks, and it seemed to work fine.

I then tried to install the 3.6_to_3.7 umod patch, and it didn't work. I found about about the rename to ut2k4mod, and made the switch.

When I double-click the file, nothing happens. I rebooted just for good measure, and still, nothing happens.

Any thoughts?

Hi

It sounds like you may have lost your file association for umods (ut4mods). You might try reinstalling the latest Epic patch, if I recall correctly that might fix the issue. Don't have to uninstall anything, just slap Epic's patch on again.

If that doesn't help you, you may have to manually fix the file association, which is no big deal. Just follow these easy steps to happiness;

go thru Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types..., find it, go to Advanced and Edit, and under 'Application to use this blah blah', put this (with your own drive letter);

C:\UT2004\System\Setup.exe install "%1"

Hm.

I reinstalled the ECE pack and it didn't work. So I followed what you said, and the file extension was already set to run as you mentioned. :(

There is this app. http://www.acordero.org/prog_proj_UTUMODEX.html or you can Ok, on some computers UT2k4 doesn't seem to set up Windows to recognise UT4mod files. To fix this:

1. Open My Computer, and then in the menu select Tools->Folder Options...
2. Choose the "File Types" tab.
3. Find the ut4mod filetype. If it doesn't exist, click new and add it.
4. After selecting the ut4mod filetype, click the "Advanced" button.
5. Give it a name and set an icon if you like.
6. Click "new..." to create a new action.
7. Name the action "Install".
8. For the "Application used to perform this action" box, enter:
"C:\MyUT2004InstallPath\System\setup.exe" install "%1"
(with quotes)
9. Ok your way back to the File Types menu. Then click "Advanced" again check to make sure the Install option is there (Tests showed windows tended to ignore the first time the option was added). If it is gone, re-add it .

That did the trick. It said my setup.exe file was corrupt and it fixed it. The patches installed with ease after that.

Thank you all so much! You're all very helpful! :D Now there is peace in my universe...
