Here is a model update, of course click for the larger pic;

And click on this beauty too:

Here's a wallpaper version of that:

I can't post news on the Chaos site yet (still being fixed since the BU crash), or else it would be there too.

Excellent! That looks really nice! I can't wait to see some shots of it in-game.
Some minor criticisms:
-The business end of the gun looks like it could use some more polygonal detail. Mainly, the insides of the four arms and that octagonal bit in the middle. You would probably never notice it in-game, but it sticks out in that wallpaper (which is now my desktop background)
-The arms look too fat. It might look better if they were concave on the inside.
-Looks kinda short. I would probably have preferred it if the grip and trigger of the gun weren't recessed on the inside.
-The shape looks vaguely spaceship-like. It doesn't look like it would look too out of place in Freespace 2 or something, as some kind of freighter or gas-miner.
Can't wait to see what the vortex itself looks like.

There have been tweaks to the Vortex Launcher, and new pics to go with it were just posted as news;

Thanks! Hope you enjoy.

Ooh, a pretty flower. OF DOOM!
Still some issues, though. When I suggested it be more concave, I was actually thinking more on the lines of full concavity. Like a quartered eggshell or something. The vortex ball would be suspended by gravity or something, like CUT2's model.
And my main issue with the polygonal detail is with the little blue rings there on the insides. In the current model, some of the rings wrap around the edges.
Oh, one thing I forgot to mention last time is the color scheme. I know UT3 is generally drab, grungy, and dead-looking, but I don't think we should contribute to that effect with this brown and grey. I think a cleaner, sterile look would befit a highly-advanced black-hole generator.
The current texture also lacks any kind of labeling, which would be important in a highly-dangerous weapon. Things like "MK.IV MASS COMPRESSION DEVICE" or "TYPE-7 SINGULARITY GENERATOR" or what have you on the side, and various labels warning against touching various components of the weapon or dismantling of the device. Maybe a humorous warning graphic depicting a stick-man being sucked into a vortex.

Thanks for giving feedback. As always, whether we agree on all points or not, it's nice to have folks take the time to look and offer opinions.
So, thanks Kaboodles!
I think the part about some kind of label is probably a good idea.
"Warning! Extreme Suckage!"
"Do not point at face!"
"Extended use may cause sterility."
"Always wear goggles."
"CD GVLC3"
"Warning! May cause sudden death!"
"Intended for Research Purposes Only! Do Not Use!"
"Chaotic Dreams not responsible for injuries or death resulting from improper use."

R.Flagg LOL , Where in the hell can I put such a long text on the weapon. !? ""Chaotic Dreams not responsible for injuries or death resulting from improper use."
However it could be written in the superweapon location area of a chaos map.
Also I will try to make a funny symbol of a stickman trap in a vortex.
Eventually don't expect too much change for the meshes and textures.
Maybe at least the colors.
I will make some tests and we will pick one.
Ok, I ll add a LABEL and warning symbol.
Update: animation videos - WIP - both vids the same, just different angles -

http://chaotic.beyondunreal.com/c3_s...on_video02.avi
To clarify a bit: The primary fire and secondary fire animations are just run together. It might seem confusing, because the sphere doesn't actually leave the model in the primary fire portion of this sample video. So when viewing, imagine the first time it opens that the sphere shoots out, and that's the primary fire. The secondary fire part is where it's spinning and then the sphere launches out.
Primary fire is meant to be faster to use, but more dangerous to the user. Because it fires the sphere faster (no charge-up time), but also closer to you so it's harder to use and still live.
Secondary Fire launches the sphere farther away from yourself, so it's easier to live when using the weapon, but it also takes a bit of 'charge-up' time. During which you are sorta vulnerable as well.
MacTom is bringing new life to an old Chaos classic. Perfect example of how you can join an existing concept/franchise, and still bring your own bit of genius to the show.
