I was just thinking: a weapon in a medieval context: why not a spellbook?
(I'm a big hexen/heretic fan ;) )

Some spell suggestions:

accid rain:
fire a small projectile and when it hits someone or something it rains on that spot for about 10 seconds

summoning:
summons a beast from the Invasion to fight for you

to be honest: there's a million possibilities, you could turn everything into a spell :)

And with emitters everything could look wonderful. Could do it simply by having spellbooks as weapon choices, or complicated-like by having a spellbook on every character, have them pick an elemental alignment (somehow... do it for bots too... randomly or something) and then have them gain new spells that fit their element as they use the weapon.

Elements could be Fire, Ice, Wind, Earth, Light, Dark to keep it simple.

Heh... if nothing else that idea I just posted would make a great mutator separate from CUT2.... hmmm.

(clap) See now this idea is golden... I still remember kicking sumass in Hexen2 w/ that Spellbook, also I would like 2 see what the Chaos Team could do w/ this weapon, i.e., when your changing ammo types it shows the character turning the page in the book, w/ new writing and pictures on that page (drool)... Don't let this idea disapper guys... or you could save it for when UT2k4 comes out :wink:

That would be an intersting weapon replacement for the link gun. Maybe use something of the system the old Dark Magic mod did for UT. Have different spells drop, and use them as different settings on the book. The more copies of a spell you pick up the more powerful it gets. I'm pretty sure Dark Magic is dead, haven't seen activity there since October 2002. (burn)

It does sound alot like Dark Magic, which I think is already being developed for UT2k3, though they probably aren't as far along or as fast as Chaotic Dreams. Anyway, my Night of the Living Dead idea includes a spellbook as a powerup, and has some interesting spells in it. Might want to check that out.
