ChaosUT won second place for the weapon mods in the last MSU contest. ( Mind you, it had a grand total of 3 weapons and the Hook at the time) When the gotye version was announced (I was only a fan at the time, working on mapping) ChaosUT was one of the mods to be on it. The odd thing, the other mods on the GOTYE were all First place winners. ChaosUT was the only second.
The Dark Side of Chaos.
Hay! I was here then!
(as I brag on my longevity....or more accurately, my refusal to leave. Hehe) Wasn't officially on the team yet, but yeah, hunting bugs and talking trash as always.
The GOTYE mods were selected by Epic (or the Stone Cutters, not sure ), there was no contest. There was originally to be 3 mods on there, but SWAT (->TacOps) was "unable to reach an agreement with Epic", and was removed.
Only RA and us remained on there. And that aint bad. I still don't own a copy of GOTYE, but someday I'll grab one. One of these bums on the team got Fred (the lead coder at the time) and/or Spa to autograph their copy. I wanted to smack 'em, out of sheer envy when I heard. (team member or not I remain a huge fan)
And in the first MSU contest, Chaos was originally given 3rd place, and then in a precursor to the Florida election fiasco, votes were recounted, hanging chads and all, and we were bumped up to 2nd place. And that aint bad either.
Did you know Chaos for Q2 was also on a retail CD? It was called Extremities. With Spa as the foundation so to speak, Chaos has done rather well thru all the personnel changes over time. Actually I am sometimes amazed that we've held it together. I guess all it takes is a damn good mod.
Long Live Chaos

If UT2k4 comes with a "bonus" disc of contest winners, then Chaos could appear on there. If ChaosDM and ChaosUT came out on retail CDs, then ChaosUT2 could most likely get on too.
I think I heard someone was up to the challegae (sp?) of making a whole new retail game of Chaos someday.
It seems to me mods/TCs rarely get played online for some reason unless it is really good (TacOps), but I'm not quite sure how something can get good enough to sell as a retail game that started out as a mod/TC.

Well just look at COunter-Strike and Day-of-Defeat. neither are all that great but they are massively popular and they started as mods for HL and now are sold in stores

So what would Chaos be as a standalone game? Would we have a single player mode? What kind of single player game would that result in? Blast your way through waves of proxies to defeat the proxy king before he takes over the universe!
OOhh, and we get Mr. T to do the voice of the Proxy King!
It's perfect!

You would also have different types of Proxy Mines to fight (and other "Chaos" Monsters) like the ones from that one thread. You would fight Chaos Soldiers (with weapons like Chaos Pulse Pistols and Cutters), Chaos Knights (Swords, Axes, etc.), some new made up monsters and other stuff.Shadowstar wrote:So what would Chaos be as a standalone game?
